Indianapolis Colts and 5 NFL Teams Desperate for a Win

T.J. McaloonOct 4, 2011

The NFL season is far from over so it’s hard to say that Week 5 is a must-win for some teams, like the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are sitting at 0-4 heading into Week 5 against the 1-3 Kansas City Chiefs with their season resting in the balance in the second week of the season.

Not every team can be like the Tennessee Titans of 2009. Those Titans lost their first six games, only to win five straight games and pull into playoff contention. But, the winning streak wasn’t enough for the Titans to save their season; that losing streak to start the season, despite winning eight of their last 10, kept them from making the playoffs.

For these teams listed, they need a win this week or else their season may be over in October.

Indianapolis Colts (0-4)

The season has progressively gotten better for the Colts. They’re still 0-4, but they have had leads in three of their last four games. They just haven’t been able to hold onto any of their leads.

The division is getting away from the Colts as both the Titans and Texans are 3-1, leaving the Colts three games out of the division lead. A win this week against the Kansas City Chiefs is the first step into turning this season around.

Philadelphia Eagles (1-3)

What was once deemed a Dream Team has turned into anything but a good dream for these Eagles. They’ve had leads, like the Colts, in three of their four games and very easily could be 3-1.

The Eagles need to do a better job of protecting their quarterback Michael Vick, as when he plays a full game it gives the Eagles their best chance to win.

Carolina Panthers (1-3)

The Panthers have a great rookie quarterback in Cam Newton, a great wide receiver in Steve Smith and a great running back (even though his stats don’t show it this year) in DeAngelo Williams—yet they’re 1-3 on the year.

It’s because the Panthers defense has yet to play to the same level as this offense. They can turn that around this week against the New Orleans Saints.

Minnesota Vikings (0-4)

This Vikings team ranks third in rushing yards per game and fifth in rushing defense. Yet they still cannot find a victory during this season. They were embarrassed by the Kansas City Chiefs last week on the road.

They have their a chance to salvage this season against the 1-3 Arizona Cardinals this week.

New York Jets (2-2)

If there was ever a team that has the talent of a championship-level team but is playing like a lottery-pick team it’s these New York Jets. They’re 2-2 but very easily could be 1-3 for the season.

The game this week against the New England Patriots on the road can turn this season around with a win. If they are blown out this week by New England, it may be the final hole in this sinking Jets ship.
