NFL Power Rankings: Cam Newton and the 3 Quarterbacks Launching Teams Upward

Chris TrapassoOct 4, 2011

The NFL has become more of a quarterback-driven league than ever before.

The teams with the efficient signal callers capable of throwing for over 300 yards and limiting mistakes are winning while the clubs with bad quarterback play typically lose.

Running the football 40 times a game is a thing of the past.

These three quarterbacks have their teams trending upward.

Cam Newton

Newton has been outstanding for the Panthers to begin his career yet Carolina sits at 1-3.

He has kept his team in every game and has played his best against the tougher teams so far (Packers, Bears, Cardinals).

They lack a ton of talent on their roster from top to bottom, but Newton's rare skill set is giving Panthers fans some hope that wins are coming in the future.

He has also been behind Steve Smith's resurgence.

Matthew Hasselbeck

The 2011 free-agent afterthought has become the best signee of the offseason so far.

Even with Chris Johnson struggling, Hasselbeck as torched opposing secondaries and is off to the best statistical start in his career.

Kenny Britt went down with a season-ending injury in Week 3 and all the Titans signal caller did against the Browns in Week 4 was throw for 220 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

Hasselbeck is making everyone forget the Titans came into the year with rather low expectations.

We knew Stafford could be special if he stayed healthy and although he's taken some hits he hasn't suffered any injuries and opponents have paid dearly.

Stafford is completing 62 percent of his passes and has 11 touchdowns to only three interceptions.

He's made us all aware that Calvin Johnson is quite possibly the best player in the NFL today.

Huge showdown on MNF with the division rival Bears this week.
