Week 5 Waiver Wire: Sleeper WRs Who Can Fill Andre Johnson's Void

Gabe ZaldivarOct 4, 2011

The Houston Texans should be feeling good about themselves right about now. The sick feeling they feel is shared by the many owners that have Andre Johnson on their fantasy teams. Luckily, in the fantasy world, he is replaceable.

Andre Johnson went down with an injury to his right hamstring, an injury that famously lingers for those athletes that sustain them.

ESPN reports head coach Gary Kubiak stated Johnson could miss "some time." The report goes on to say that this could mean anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

Folks, that means it is time to go rummaging through the waiver wire to see who can take the place of the hardest working receiver in the business.

We will use Yahoo Leagues to see who is most available in the fantasy ether. Don't worry, we are going to get you through this tragedy.

1. Pierre Garcon: This is a coin flip as to him being available. However, Pierre Garcon looks primed to break from the doldrums as Curtis Painter found him in key spots on Monday night.

He had two scores on the night, and it looks like there will be more in the coming week. Painter and Garcon may have just built some chemistry in the heat of battle. Owned in 53% of Y! Leagues

2. Victor Cruz: Please don't let his bone-headed move on Sunday deter you. Sure he grounded the ball without a whistle being heard. But that is not what you should be concentrating on.

Cruz had six receptions for 98 yards. Granted, not a world beater of a game, but he is a major part of the offense. It seems the Giants like Cruz as their No. 2 over Mario Manningham, and you should too. Owned in 37% of Y! Leagues

3. Preston Parker: Mike Williams is having some issues getting free downfield. That leaves Josh Freeman to look closer for a place to dump the ball.

On Monday night, Parker caught five balls for 70 yards and a touchdown. He will surely get the ball just as many times against a soft 49ers defense on Sunday. Owned in 5% of Y! Leagues
