NFL Week 5 Waiver Wire: 5 Huge Pickups To Transform Your Team
It's Week 5 in the NFL, and we have our first round of byes. So if you're on the wrong side of a team taking the week off or are looking for a short-term replacement for Andre Johnson, look no further.
These are the five guys you need to grab off the waiver to build up your team for the coming week. Some of these might be gambles, but there is no victory without taking chances.
Jermaine Gresham
1 of 5Owned in 21 percent of ESPN leagues.
It doesn't make a lot of sense to be adding a Bengal to your team, but Gresham has quietly put up some nice stats lately.
He's averaging four catches a game and gets the soft Jacksonville defense in Week 5. They'll be focusing on A.J. Green and the long ball, so look for Gresham to get some nice looks underneath.
Isaac Redman
2 of 5Owned in 13.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
I've mentioned him before, but with Rashard Mendenhall down (not that he was impressing anyway), Redman got the most of the other carries.
He impressed, averaging 6.7 yards per carry. I think he'll get the most of the carries along with Mewelde Moore. And you just know Pittsburgh has to bounce back after last week.
Jacoby Jones
3 of 5Owned in 10.7 percent of ESPN leagues.
Neither Jones nor Kevin Walter caught a pass last week against a stingy Steelers defense, but now that Andre Johnson is down for a couple of weeks, one of these guys is going to step up, and I think it's going to be Jones.
We've all been waiting for him to break out, and this could be the time that he finally does it. The Texans will score some points against the Raiders, and somebody has to do it. Look for Jones to make a couple big catches and get into the end zone once.
Pierre Garcon
4 of 5Owned in 80 percent of ESPN leagues.
Okay, so Garcon isn't as readily available as these other guys, but you never know what owner could have gotten frustrated with his lack of production over the first three weeks and dropped him.
With Garcon looking like Curtis Painter's guy, he could be a nice pickup if he happens to be available. Don't look for two long TDs every game, but he'll get plenty of targets.
Matt Hasselbeck
5 of 5Available in 36.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
How has nobody wised up about Hasselbeck yet? He's never been a sexy name in the QB world, but he's putting up some really great numbers this year.
Mark my words, he will end up as a top 10 fantasy QB by year's end.
Granted, he does have a pissed off Steelers team next week, but even if you don't start him, you should definitely grab him for the future while you still can.
