Fantasy Football Week 5 Rankings: Michael Vick and the Top 4 Riskiest QBs

John RozumOct 4, 2011

It's not so much that you shouldn't start the following four quarterbacks, but be aware that they may disappoint in Week 5.

However, if you are able to find a better matchup, it wouldn't be a bad idea to at least consider making the lineup change.

That being said, here are the four riskiest quarterbacks in Week 5.

4. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

This is obviously the most surprising of the four since it's Drew Brees, but after a non Brees-esque performance on the road in Jacksonville (one TD, two picks, 351 yards), another on the road at NFC South rival Carolina will be a solid test.

Despite being 1-3, the Panthers have battled in a barn-burner with each game, and they also have the No. 6-ranked pass defense (203 yards per game allowed).

I'm not saying that Brees won't put up solid numbers, but it's not going to be anything like the first three weeks of the season, and with Carolina also having the No. 31-ranked rush defense, coach Sean Payton will pound the rock more in this game.

It will also be a good break-in game for rookie running back Mark Ingram to get acclimated with divisional play.

Starting Brees is a forgone conclusion, but with an effective ground game versus a weak rush defense, the Saints will let the offensive line push forward in Week 5, and especially since it's on the road.

3. Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles as a whole have definitely underachieved, but quarterback Mike Vick comes off a solid performance versus San Fran in Week 4.

The concern, though, is whether he can maintain that high level of play, because through four games Philly has not been consistent by any means.

Add in his recent injury history—despite it not affecting him last week—and continuing to perform at a high rate will be difficult.

This week, Vick and the Eagles travel to Buffalo, whose defense is skeptical. However, they know how to force turnovers (just ask Tom Brady).

It's not a bad idea to start Vick, but don't say you weren't warned if he disappoints.

2. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

Despite being ranked No. 10 in passing offense, much of that can be attributed to wide receiver Mike Wallace having seven of his 25 receptions go for 20-plus yards, as well as 20 of the 25 catches helping move the chains.

Then mention Pittsburgh's weak offensive line, combined with the No. 20-ranked rushing offense, and the Steelers are barely dimensional, let alone one-dimensional.

Roethlisberger has been sack 14 times and pressured a whole lot more, which is partially why he only has three TD passes to five picks.

In Week 5, the Steel Curtain hosts the 3-1 Tennessee Titans, who have a top-10 defense in both rush and pass yards allowed.

Needless to say, find someone else for Big Ben, or decrease your odds of winning.

1. Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears

He's been lacking all season long and has only five TD passes to go with four picks through four games.

Now count running back Matt Forte's emergence, and offensive coordinator Mike Martz will definitely run the ball more.

In addition, Chicago plays at Detroit on Monday night, and the Lions know how to turn turnovers into points (as Cowboys' QB Tony Romo sighs off camera).

Plus, the Lions are worse at stopping the run, and to keep the Detroit offense off the field, Forte will be called upon even more in Week 5.

Do your best to find a replacement for Cutler, because the odds of him putting up big numbers this week are slim to none.
