NFL Week 5: New England Patriots vs. New York Jets and Other Key Matchups

Michael AnelloOct 4, 2011

Week 5 of the 2011 NFL schedule is right around the corner, and there is a great slate of games.

In a heated AFC East rivalry, the 3-1 New England Patriots will take on the 2-2 New York Jets. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will have the crowd behind him as he looks to get revenge against the team that knocked him out of the playoffs last season.

The Patriots are coming off of a win on the west coast against the Oakland Raiders and are happy to put that debacle against the Buffalo Bills behind them.

The Jets will try to get starting C Nick Mangold back on the field this week. Quarterback Mark Sanchez will have to hold onto the football against a Patriots defense that includes ex-Jets DE Shaun Ellis.

Sanchez looked like a deer in headlights last week against the Baltimore Ravens' pass rush of DL Haloti Ngata and linebackers Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs.

Week 5 also pits defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay against Atlanta in the Georgia Dome.

The Packers are flying on all cylinders this season.

Tight end Jermichael Finley is back healthy and has been a beast, catching everything thrown his way by quarterback Aaron Rodgers. CB Charles Woodson continues to show why he won the Heisman Trophy at the University of Michigan and will likely be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

The "Dirty Birds" will hope that their "12th man" can help them avenge an ugly postseason loss from a year ago. Quarterback Matt Ryan has big targets in Roddy White and Julio Jones to pressure the Packers' secondary.

The Houston Texans will try to continue their winning ways at Reliant stadium when the Raiders come into town. This game displays two of the better running attacks in the league.

Texans halfback Arian Foster came back from his hamstring injury in a big way against the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers defense, rushing for 155 yards. Texans wideout and "The U" product Andre Johnson may miss the game with a hamstring injury and is listed as questionable.

The Raiders will head south with their speedy, shifty ball carrier Darren McFadden. He is having a fantastic year and torched Rex Ryan's Jets defense two weeks ago.

It looks like another great weekend of sitting in front of the TV and taking in all of the NFL action.

Can the Jets keep Brady in check? Will the Packers stay undefeated? Is this the year that the Texans get over the hump and make the playoffs?
