NFL Picks Week 5: New England Patriots and the 3 Home Team Locks

Chris TrapassoOct 4, 2011

The New England Patriots have won 29 straight home games in which Tom Brady has started.

Think it'll get to 30 on Sunday?

I do.

Let's look at Brady's Pats and the other home team locks for Week 5.

New England Patriots

Re-read the first sentence.

That tells it all.

Obviously, all streaks come to an end, but it's not happening this week—not against a flustered Jets offense and a defense that we've seen is more susceptible to the big play than we initially thought.

Sure, Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie will provide the toughest test yet for Brady and his group of wideouts.

But Wes Welker cannot be covered, and if Aaron Hernandez returns, the Patriots' high-powered attack is back at full force.

Sanchez isn't ready to go into Foxboro and pull off an upset, especially because his confidence is extremely low right now.

Too many errant passes and late decisions.

New York Giants

There are a handful of reasons to believe the Giants will win on Sunday over the Seahawks.

First things first—I think New York is a far more talented team from top to bottom than Seattle.

They can consistently get to the passer with their front four and are creating turnovers in their secondary.

Eli Manning has formulated a nice rapport with Mario Manningham, Hakeem Nicks and the newly-inserted Victor Cruz, and the ground game is picking up steam.

We know about the "west coast team traveling to east coast to play at one o'clock" theory.

Teams doing so have an extremely hard time winning.

Giants get to 4-1.

Detroit Lions

I have bought in to the 2011 Detroit Lions.

They get the Bears at home in prime time in the biggest game in recent memory. Jay Cutler is often rattled in the pocket, and the Lions defensive front should have a field day against the Bears offensive line.

Chicago's defense is giving up an unusually high amount of yards on the ground and through the air.

The Lions have Calvin Johnson.

The Bears do not.

Detroit makes a huge statement on MNF and keep pace with the Packers.
