As soon as you start getting old or get put in a difficult situation in the NFL, the world starts raining down on you.
Fans cry out. Pundits scoff. And fantasy football owners drop you like you've just announced your retirement.
But three waiver-wire pickups proved in Week 4 that they still had what it takes, putting up some impressive numbers despite their circumstances.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Here are three of the hottest pickups headed into Week 5 of the football season.
Jermaine Gresham, TE, Cincinnati Bengals
Jermaine Gresham was drafted No. 21 overall out of Oklahoma in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Bengals.
And he's finally beginning to realize his big-time potential.
After catching 52 balls for 471 yards and four touchdowns last season as a rookie, Gresham already has 16 catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns in 2011. In Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills, Gresham caught four balls for 70 yards and a score.
Bengals rookie quarterback Andy Dalton will have his ups and downs, but Gresham is his safety-valve when he's in trouble and he'll always be looking for him. Gresham is owned in just 28 percent of Yahoo! Sports leagues as of this writing.
Pierre Garcon, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Curtis Painter, the longtime backup to Peyton Manning, finally got his shot to start in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he responded by looking receiver Pierre Garcon's way early and often.
Painter certainly has his flaws, but he made more plays than Kerry Collins had in relief of Manning. Garcon had only two receptions on Monday against the Buccaneers, but he racked up 146 receiving yards and two scores. He's going to be used a lot on screen passes with Painter at the helm, and you can bet he's going to be eying the end zone with his athleticism.
Keep in mind Garcon did his damage against a solid Buccaneers secondary.
Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Tennessee Titans
The Seattle Seahawks opted to let Matt Hasselbeck go in the offseason as they tried to move on in search of their next franchise quarterback.
That decision didn't work out too well for the Seahawks, but it's worked out mighty fine for the Tennessee Titans, who picked him up and now sport a 3-1 record.
Not only does Hasselbeck have the ninth-most points among quarterbacks in Yahoo! Sports leagues, he's been amazingly consistent, scoring at least 17 fantasy points in each of his first four games.
Against a good Cleveland Browns secondary and minus star receiver Kenny Britt, Hasselbeck threw for 220 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Week 4.
Hasselbeck plays the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5, but he's certainly a quarterback you can plug in after Week 5 if you need help.
