Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire: Matt Hasselbeck and 3 Fantasy Delights

Gabe ZaldivarOct 4, 2011

Let's build a bridge of trust. I am about to give you the safest players you can grab off the waiver wire. In return, I only ask that you remember who got you here.

It is one thing to get waiver-wire studs. Anybody can look at the best players available and grab them before the other fantasy owners.

These are volatile athletes. One week they are grabbing two touchdown receptions, one of which from the arms of Nnamdi Asomugha. That is when we exclaim, "I am picking up Victor Cruz."

The next week that Cruz guy is netting much more humble fantasy points and nearly costing his own team the game in the process.

It's time to practice safe fantasy football. Here are the guys that will be gentle on your team while delivering a consistent effort that will have you jumping for joy, or skipping for glee if you like.

Matt Hasselbeck

The Tennessee Titans have been the pleasant surprise of the 2011 season. After finding his comfort zone in a new system, Matt Hasselbeck has quietly put together a great season.

The numbers 20, 18, 22, and 24 are the fantasy points he has scored in the last few weeks. If you are looking for a solid contribution under center, he's your man. Owned in 40 percent of Y! Leagues.

Jason Campbell

The Oakland Raiders once again have one of the most prolific offenses in the league. Campbell is the perfect quarterback for those playing in deep leagues and happened to be in need of a QB during the first bye week.

Campbell looked spry despite having a foot issue against the Patriots on Sunday. He went 25-of-39 for 344 yards. He tossed a touchdown but took a step back with two picks.

The Raiders take to the air often, making Campbell a shoo-in for 15 to 17 points weekly. Owned in 21 percent of Y! Leagues.

Jermaine Gresham

Just when you think all the good tight ends are taken, you come across Jermaine Gresham. The tight end has been getting more looks from Andy Dalton, and has repaid him with trustworthy hands.

On Sunday, he had four catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. He will continue to be a key target in an offense that has few. Owned in 28 percent of Y! Leagues.
