GSP vs Anderson Silva: Is This MMA's Version of Mayweather vs Pacquiao?

G DOct 5, 2011

Over the course of the past five years, Anderson Silva and George St-Pierre have undoubtedly established themselves as the top two fighters in the UFC.

Since entering the UFC, both Silva and St-Pierre have dominated and weeded out nearly every opponent in their respected weight class.

In fact, Silva has never lost when entering the UFC Octagon, posting a perfect 14-0 record including nine straight title defenses

St-Pierre, who's lost just twice in his UFC career hasn't fallen since April of 2007. To date, St-Pierre has won nine straight bouts including defending his title six consecutive times.

With neither champion showing signs of being dethroned anytime soon, fans are begging for a super fight between these two world class talents.

The likelihood of these two actually squaring off has been talked about for years.

The only problem, it's yet to happen.

St-Pierre has been open to the idea of fighting Silva but only under the proper circumstances.

St-Pierre was quoted by Yahoo! Sports where he stated,

"For me to go up in weight class, I need to consider a lot of things. Putting on or losing too much weight, for me, is very hard. I'm always about the same size, I've got an ectomorph type physique. I could; it just depends on the amount of time I have to do it. If I do it, I have to do it well, it takes time."

St Pierre continued in stating,

"But, if the UFC is willing to give me the time to do so, and not make me fight during that period of time, and also not make him fight during that period of time, because if he fights and something happens, you know he loses and now he's not invincible, everything goes out the window."

The longer this bout is discussed the more of a long shot it becomes.

Similar to that of the Floyd Mayweather, Jr and Manny Pacquiao super fight, it's been talked about, but still, has no foreseeable future.

As did St-Pierre, Mayweather set out conditions in order for their block buster deal to happen.

The fans want it, the conditions are set, but, still no fight.
