NFL Week 4: Chicago Bears vs Carolina Panthers Recap

Michael GibbonsOct 3, 2011

Join Gibbs and Tim Hockemeyer as they break down the Chicago Bears each and every week.

The Bears welcomed some familiar faces in Ron Rivera and Greg Olsen as well as rookie Cam Newton to Soldier field in Week 4. Is Cam Newton the real deal? Ron Rivera looked very much like Lovie Smith with the poor clock management to end the first half.

Greg Olsen reminded Bears fans why they miss him with five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. Also let’s not forget Steve Smith who was giving many Bears fans flashbacks to 2005 when he torched the Bears in the playoffs.

Lovie Smith’s Bears finally came off the bus running with Matt Forte running for over 200 yards while Jay Cutler barely threw for 100. Is his just a mirage or a real sign of change in Mike Martz’s play calling?

Special teams came up big with Devin Hester setting another return record and Julius Peppers coming up with a block field goal but the Bears defense was beaten badly through the air and on the ground. Does Chris Harris really mean this much to the defense?
