Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: 5 Pickups That Can Save Your Season

T.J. McaloonOct 3, 2011

The fantasy football season is in full swing, as we're a quarter of the way down with injuries happening every single week. You need to pick up players to fill holes on your roster, but your waiver wire players are very slim.

Sure, Tarvaris Jackson is available in your league, but do you really want him?

Of course you don't!

But here are five players that can help you save your season, even if you lost Kenny Britt and Andre Johnson.

Matt Hasselbeck: Quarterback, Tennessee Titans

1 of 5

It was another week and another huge performance from Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

The Titans lost their main wide receiver in Kenny Britt, but it didn't slow down this passing attack, as Hasselbeck went off again for another three touchdowns and 220 yards passing.

This gives Hasselbeck a total of eight touchdowns in four games this year.

With the Titans running game struggling this year, it's worth giving Hasselbeck a roster spot on your team.

Eric Decker: Wide Receiver, Denver Broncos

2 of 5

Eric Decker isn't the main target in Denver's offense.

However, he is finding ways to get into the end zone, which will lead you to more points than Brandon Lloyd's receiving yards.

Last week against Green Bay, Decker only had 56 yards but did score twice.

While Lloyd is playing opposite of Decker, it will take the away the main corner back from him, thus opening up more opportunities for Eric Decker to score.

Ryan Torain: Running Back, Washington Redskins

3 of 5

Last year, Torain was the main running back in a crowded Redskins backfield.

He emerged from out of Clinton Portis' shadow to lead the team in rushing yards attempts and touchdowns.

But this year, he was the forgotten man when the team drafted Roy Helu and signed Tim Hightower.

The first three weeks, Torain was the odd man out, not getting any time. But that changed this past week against St. Louis, rushing for 135 yards and a touchdown.

Pick up Ryan Torain just in case Washington decides to give him the start next week.

Laurent Robinson: Wide Receiver, Dallas Cowboys

4 of 5

Laurent Robinson is this week's Torrey Smith and Victor Cruz. He will be the one person that everyone in your league will rush to add.

And he should be; he had a great week against the Detroit Lions. He is the No. 2 receiver for the Cowboys while Miles Austin is injured, and he will get a lot of looks while Dez Bryant is getting double to triple-teamed.

Add Robinson because Dez Bryant is one tackle away from getting injured again. So when Miles Austin comes back in a few weeks, you'll still have Robinson when/if Bryant is injured again.

Ryan Succop: Kicker, Kansas City Chiefs

5 of 5

Holy bleep, what the heck got into Ryan Succop this week? Not only did the Chiefs win their first game, their kicker had five field goals and an extra point this week.

Two of those field goals were for over 50 yards. In most leagues, that's a 12-point swing that your team could have used.

Pick this kicker up, because this Chiefs team has a horrible offense that will rely on the kicker to score their points.
