Fantasy Football Week 5: Calvin Johnson and 3 WRs Who Will Continue to Dominate

Eric BowmanOct 3, 2011

Calvin Johnson is making his case as the best wide receiver in the NFL today, and his fantasy owners sure are happy about that.

The amazing thing about his stellar performances is that he hasn't been 100-percent healthy each week, but he still ranks second among fantasy football wideouts behind Wes Welker.

Receivers are very important in fantasy football because in most leagues you have the option to start three of them. If you start a player who's capable of scoring multiple touchdowns in a game then your chances of winning greatly increase.

There are a great number of receivers who shine each week, but the trick is to start those who consistently perform well. Here are three players who do just that and will continue to do so in Week 5.

Calvin Johnson

With the nickname of Megatron, you know this guy is the real deal. Johnson is a huge reason why the Detroit Lions are 4-0 right now.

His playmaking ability is among the best in the league, as evidenced by his first touchdown catch of the game Sunday, when he out-jumped three Cowboys defenders for the score.

Johnson has had four straight games with at least two touchdowns, which pairs him in the company of Cris Carter, the only other NFL receiver to accomplish that. Johnson, however, is the only player to do it in the first four games of the season.

He takes on the Chicago Bears at home on Monday night, and he will continue to put up big points for his owners, because that's just what he does.

The Carolina Panthers are surprisingly much better on offense this season with the addition of Cam Newton as quarterback, but Smith has been a huge reason why the Panthers are putting points on the board.

Newton excels at throwing the deep ball, and Smith is one of the best in the league at bringing it in. They play the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, who have shown that they're susceptible to the pass.

Smith hasn't had a touchdown catch since the first game of the season, but he's still put up big numbers as he ranks in the top five among fantasy football wideouts.

He'll find the end zone again this weekend, especially since he's back at home in Carolina, and the Panthers need him big time against their rival.

Greg Jennings

Jennings is Aaron Rodgers' favorite target, which means he's going to get a lot of passes thrown his way. He's consistently scored double-digit points every week, and he doesn't appear to be slowing down.

The Green Bay Packers will travel south to take on the Atlanta Falcons. The last time they were there, they had no trouble moving the ball up and down the field. The scary thing is that Atlanta's secondary might be even worse than the last time these two teams met.

Jennings will have no problem putting up a lot of points in Week 5, and the Packers shouldn't have much trouble beating the Falcons.
