David Garrard: Which NFL Team Should Consider the Former Jaguars Quarterback?

Alex RamirezOct 5, 2011

David Garrard was cut by the Jaguars just before the start of the season. Many were shocked as to why he was let go. Instead, Jacksonville turned to Luke McCown and Blaine Gabbert. Since then, Garrard has not been signed.

The Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne went down with an injury this past week, and now the Dolphins are turning to Matt Moore. Although Matt Moore is decent, David Garrard would be a much better fit.

Garrard has more experience than Moore, and more arm strength. His leadership needs work, but overall, he'd be a perfect fit for Miami. Unfortunately for Dolphin fans, Miami did not think Garrard could bring more to the table than Matt Moore or Chad Henne. Garrard had a work out with Miami, but no contract was reached.

Other teams in need of quarterback help would be the Colts and, ironically, the Jaguars.

In Indianapolis, the only upside right now is Andrew Luck. The Colts are clearly the favorite in the Luck sweepstakes.

With Manning out for the season, Kerry Collins was signed to fill in. Collins, who is in his 18th season, sustained a concussion a week ago and the Colts were forced to turn to Curtis Painter. While Painter could turn out to be a decent quarterback, he doesn't have the experience.

Garrard would, just like in Miami, fit perfectly in their system. Firstly, he knows the division because of when he played in Jacksonville. Secondly, he's never really had a No. 1 receiver. In Indianapolis, Garrard would have plenty of weapons, from Reggie Wayne to Dallas Clark to Austin Collie. The Colts should consider Garrard.

Do I need to mention anything about the Jaguars? Same as Painter, Gabbert doesn't have the experience.

Expect Garrard to be signed at some point during this year.
