Tim Tebow: Why John Fox's Comments Should Curb Any Fantasy Appeal

Ryan PhillipsOct 3, 2011

Fans of the Denver Broncos have been clamoring for Tim Tebow to take over at quarterback for quite some time now. And after this weekend's 49-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers, that chorus should get even louder.

Head coach John Fox seemed to put a stop to any rumors that Tebow might replace Kyle Orton as the starting quarterback on Sunday following the game. Tebow played one snap and ran for minus-one yard on the play, and never saw the field again.

After the game Fox was asked about that play and said, "It didn't prove beneficial, so we went in a different direction."

Strangely enough, Tim Tebow is still owned in some fantasy leagues by players hoping he eventually steps into the starting role. Given Fox's comments yesterday, if you own the Florida product, release him because he's just taking up a spot on your roster.

Orton had a debacle of a game on Sunday, as he finished the afternoon completing 22 of 32 passes for 273 yards, with three touchdowns and three interceptions. All of the three picks came on terrible reads by the Purdue grad, and he really didn't look good at all.

If Fox was going to go to Tebow, late in yesterday's game would have been the time to put him in. Clearly that's not an attractive option for the veteran head coach, as he stuck with Orton despite being completely out of the game. At one point Green Bay held a 49-17 lead midway through the fourth quarter and Orton remained under center.

At this point it should be clear to everyone that Fox does not believe in Tebow as a starting quarterback in the NFL. Thus, the former Heisman Trophy winner has absolutely no fantasy value right now.
