Vincent Jackson Injury: Updates on Chargers WR's Week 5 Status and Fantasy Value

Eric BowmanOct 3, 2011

Vincent Jackson is currently battling through a leg injury, and the San Diego Chargers need him to get healthy soon.

Jackson is a huge part of the Chargers offense, and is really the only wide receiver Philip Rivers can truly rely on. If they don't have him, their offense suffers a great deal.

Stay tuned here as we update you with the latest on Vincent Jackson's injury.

UPDATE: Sunday, Oct. 9 at 10:45 p.m. EDT by Donald Wood

The San Diego Chargers will be without Antonio Gates again this week, so the play of Vincent Jackson will be even more important than before. Jackson is Philip Rivers’ favorite target, and without Gates, Jackson will get even more targets.

ESPN NFL insider John Clayton is reporting on twitter about Jackson’s availability for Sunday’s game:

This is one of those fantasy starts that makes owners smile in their Saturday slumber, and playing against a weak Denver Broncos’ secondary should make the fantasy explosion even larger.

UPDATE: Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2:40 p.m. EDT by Donald Wood

Vincent Jackson is one of the most important pieces of the San Diego Chargers offensive attack, and it looks like he will play Sunday with his hamstring injury.

The Denver Broncos secondary is not the greatest, and Vincent Jackson and Philip Rivers will have no problem carving it up for big points. Start Jackson with confidence.

The Chargers are hopeful Jackson can play on Sunday, but everything is still up in the air. NBC San Diego reports on the latest.

"

Wide receiver Vincent Jackson (hamstring) missed practice again on Thursday. It's the second straight week he sat out on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Turner said he hopes Jackson can repeat what he did last Friday when dealing with an abdomen injury, practicing in full and then playing on Sunday.

"

No word on if he's practiced or not today, but we will let you know.

It sounds as if Jackson will be a game time decision on Sunday, which means you need to be prepared to make adjustments to your fantasy roster at the last minute. I think he'll play, and if he does, you'll want him in your lineup.

Thursday, Oct. 6 at 5:54 p.m. EST

Bad news for Vincent Jackson owners as he reportedly missed practice today, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

This doesn't bode well for fantasy owners who desperately need him in the lineup this week. Nothing is official as of yet, but it doesn't sound good for Jackson owners.

Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 5:15 p.m. EST

Vincent Jackson missed practice today, but that is a general occurrence in the NFL on Wednesdays. He is expected to play this week against Denver, according to San Diego Sports writer Michael Gehlken.

Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 4:55 p.m. ET

Nothing new to report on for the status of Jackson, but he should play on Sunday. The big concern is how much he'll play, and how often will Philip Rivers throw him the ball?

The fact that he continues to make progress is very good news. The Chargers would prefer for him to be out there, but they also don't want to risk losing him for an extended period of time.

Stay tuned for further updates throughout the week, but Jackson looks like a good bet to start this week.

Monday, Oct. 3 at 3:55 p.m. ET

San Diego Chargers beat writer Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune tweeted today some new information regarding the status of Jackson.

This is good news for Jackson's owners in fantasy football because he was still productive on Sunday. He'll continue to heal throughout the week, and right now things are looking good for the Chargers top wideout.

It would be a huge let down for both the Chargers and owners of Jackson if he couldn't play this Sunday. The Broncos' secondary has been awful this year while Champ Bailey rehabs a hamstring injury, but even if he returns Jackson should still have a good game.

Monday, Oct. 3 at 12:35 p.m.

Michael Gehlken covers the Chargers for the San Diego Union-Tribune, and he tweeted yesterday what head coach Norv Turner had to say about the status of Vincent Jackson.

It's too early to tell if he'll be out this coming Sunday against their division rival, the Denver Broncos. His status will need to be monitored throughout the week, and it wouldn't surprise me if he was a game time decision on Sunday.

The Chargers travel to Denver, which could mean Jackson may not play. If it were a home game they might be more prone to have him test his leg and play.

Jackson is ranked in the top 10 in fantasy football among wide receivers, and he is a must-start every week when healthy. However, he is questionable right now, which means you need to be cautious with your play this week.

Because it's only a muscle strain I think he'll play on Sunday, but a lot can happen during practice this week, so you never really know until the official word comes from San Diego.
