Anything Surprising You in the First Few Weeks of the Season?

Bryan DietzlerOct 3, 2011

The first two weeks of the NFL season have come to a close and there have been a few surprises at the beginning of the year.

For starters, no one would have thought that the Detroit Lions would have done as well as they have.  Granted, they have been beating up on some of the weaker teams in the NFL, but they are beating them soundly and look much better at 4-0 than they have in the past few seasons.

Is it finally time for the Lions to be known as one of the better teams in the NFL and make the possibility of them making the playoffs a reality.  Is it finally their time to shine?

The Buffalo Bills are another one of those teams that seem to be surprising everyone.  Last year, the Bills found it difficult to win a single game but this year they have started off the season well and look good at 3-1.

They haven’t hit the real “meat” of their schedule yet and the big tests are about to come.  Those games that they will play, those games against the Patriots and the Jets, are going to be huge games and will help decide whether or not the Bills are going to make a run at the playoffs this season.

Another team that has surprised some is the Washington Redskins.  There were many people that laughed when starting quarterback Rex Grossman predicted that the Redskins would end up winning the NFC East.  Right now they are playing well enough that they could actually pull it off.  But it’s still early in the season and things could end up changing.

Aside from the Bills in the AFC, a couple of other teams appear to be somewhat surprising so far this season.  The Cleveland Browns and the Oakland Raiders are off to hot starts.  If these teams can keep on winning then things are going to look a lot different in the AFC this year.

The play of Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton has also been pretty amazing so far this season.  Granted, he’s only led his team to one win so far, but he kept them close in every game and is bound to become a consistent winner in the league as his career continues.

It’s still very early in season and there are a lot more games left to play, but if things keep going like they are we could see a lot of surprise teams in the playoffs when the season is over.  It would be a huge surprise to see any of the teams previously mentioned in the playoffs in 2011 and it’s possible that at least a few of them will make it.

This is what makes the NFL so interesting.
