WWE Hell in a Cell 2011: CM Punk's Burials Are Killing His Momentum

Donald WoodOct 3, 2011

CM Punk is one of the biggest stars in the WWE right now, and the constant burials WWE is showering him with aren’t doing him any justice.

I’m sure there is a master plan behind all of this madness, but ever since CM Punk captured the heart of the wrestling world with his first shoot promo all those months ago and the WWE title at Money in the Bank, the WWE has been flat out burying him.

There hasn’t been a faster rise to superstardom in the WWE than CM Punk over the last few months, and the reasons behind the WWE’s sporadic pushes and burials of the star are odd.

After an epic match against Triple H at Night Of Champions, the idea that Punk could win the WWE title back at Hell in a Cell was something fans were excited about.

News that Punk is the bigger merchandise seller right now showed that the WWE would probably let Alberto Del Rio win because he needed the push more than the other two participants, but it’s how he lost that bugged me.

They made Punk look so weak at the end of the WWE Title match that it’s hard to think that they are still really behind what he is doing.

Further evidence comes with the news from Wrestle Zone, “Even today, Vince [McMahon] doesn't understand the appeal of the Punk character.”

That is why the WWE has no problem letting him look weak because they know that people will buy in no matter what happens to him in the matches, and he has the diehard fans hooked.

When great matches or cool storylines come along, the WWE will have no problem letting Punk partake and be a star, but with the same assurance they will bury him for the sake of pushing another star.

There may be no hard feelings about Punk’s contract dispute that became oh so public, but if anyone can hold a grudge, its Vince McMahon.
