Can Calvin Johnson Shatter the Record for Receiving Touchdowns in a Season?
This is a remarkable season for the Detroit Lions. The Lions have gone from underachievers to being the only undefeated team in the league next to the Green Bay Packers, who are the reigning Super Bowl champions and NFC North rivals with the Lions.
Following a big comeback win over the Dallas Cowboys, Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has caught eight receiving touchdowns in just four weeks. Johnson has caught a pair of touchdowns in every game this season to earn his total.
Johnson already has more than half of the touchdowns Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe caught last year after leading the league in receiving touchdowns with 15. Johnson is already on pace to pass Bowe's total from 2010.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Once Johnson passes last year's leader, can he go ahead and shatter one of the most prestigious receiving records?
Randy Moss was part of a New England Patriots squad that set the bar high in every offensive category as a team. The Patriots also had a couple of individuals who became record setters, and Moss was no exception to that list. Moss not only led the league in receiving touchdowns in 2007, but he also passed Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice for the most receiving touchdowns in a season with 23 touchdowns. Rice previously held the record with 22 touchdowns for two decades.
Doing the simple math, Johnson is on pace to get 32 touchdowns if he continues to score a pair of touchdowns per game. However, it is likely that Johnson will encounter a few struggles down the road this year, like every elite player.
In the end, Johnson will manage to get enough receiving touchdowns to lead the league and hopefully get his team to the postseason.
Matthew Stafford is having the best season of his young career and is one of the best quarterbacks this season. As long as Johnson has Stafford as his quarterback, there are reasons to believe Johnson will pass Moss and own a prominent record.
