Tony Sparano: Dolphins Coach Deserves to Be Fired This Month

Alex KayOct 3, 2011

Tony Sparano should have coached his last game for the Miami Dolphins after they failed to make it competitive against the San Diego Chargers and fell to 0-4 on the season.

However, it seems that Sparano’s job is safe until at least October 17th, which is the Dolphins' next game after their bye this week.

ESPN found that,

“The South Florida Sun Sentinel, citing a high-ranking NFL source, reported Monday that Sparano is ‘certain’ to survive the team's off week and coach its next game on Oct. 17 at the New York Jets.”

"

Sparano has had a rocky tenure with the team, starting on a high note by leading the ‘Fins to an 11-5 record and an AFC East title in his first year on the job.

Since then, he has gone 14-22 and the team has finished 7-9 in each of the last two seasons.

Most noticeably last year, he only finished 1-7 at home and winning some of those crucial games could have meant a playoff berth for Miami.

Miami is on a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season and Sparano clearly needs to go. He cannot get this team to perform at the level they need to be at to compete in the tough AFC East that is seeing even the lowly Buffalo Bills emerge as a top contender this season.

Perhaps Sparano won’t even make it through the bye, as ProFootballTalk is tweeting that his press conference has been cancelled for Monday.

I don’t think it is a good idea to waste two weeks' time for a replacement to be installed. The sooner the inevitable gets done, the better for the Miami team, fans and organization.

I do think Darren Rovell put it best. Get rid of Sparano now and get a replacement who could at least provide hope for this struggling team this season.
