Jets vs. Ravens: 3 Halftime Observations for the Jets

Joseph MerkelOct 2, 2011

The Jets have found a way to stay in this game against the Baltimore Ravens, but it hasn't had much to do with their offense. A great special teams run-back and a stellar play by linebacker David Harris account for the majority of the Jets' points thus far.

If New York is going to get closer in this game, they will have to get their offense going. Let's take a look at some key adjustments the Jets must make for the second half.

1) We all know that the defenses are the biggest storyline of the game, but it will be very difficult to win this game if the Jets can't get their offense rolling. Santonio Holmes has been the Ravens' kryptonite for a long time now, and no one knows more than Rex Ryan.

The Jets' Head Coach needs to understand that there is a seventh-round rookie cornerback starting for the Ravens. If he's smart, Ryan will target him ASAP when he's got Santonio with man-on-man coverage.

2)The field position battle is often one of the most impactful keys to the game when your'e dealing with two stud defenses. Clearly that's what we have with the Jets and the Ravens.

Mark Sanchez can not afford to make mistakes against a dangerous Ravens' secondary. The best idea Sanchez can have under pressure is to throw the ball away. A short field is usually the quickest way to a touchdown (Unless it's kickoff return for a TD).

3) Can someone put a hit on Flacco please? This guy is making Mike Vick look immobile tonight.

On several occasions tonight, the Jets' pass rushers have had Flacco on the run and he's made some incredible plays for first downs. These have already hurt the Jets on the scoreboard and they'll need to contain the strong-armed QB if they want to find success.
