Fantasy Football Busts: Rashard Mendenhall and 3 Stars Who'll Never Produce

Kyle VassaloOct 4, 2011

So you drafted someone in the early rounds who's tanking?

For those of you who drafted guys like Chris Johnson and Arian Foster, things are looking up.

For others, who haven't seen a return in your investment, it's only going to get worse. There are stars who are going to undergo a miserable season.

Things are never going to get better, and anything you can salvage for them at this point is likely worth it.

Here are three stars who'll never produce.

Rashard Mendenhall

Rashard Mendenhall is behind a broken and beaten offensive line. The line has already put Ben Roethlisberger's status in question and forced Mendenhall's numbers to regress into a pathetic state.

With a miserable 173 yards through four games, Mendenhall owners didn't think it could get any worse.

Now, with a nagging hamstring issue, there is even more reason to be pessimistic. Mendenhall isn't going to be able to turn it around this season. Through no fault of his own, Mendenhall is falling victim to a porous offensive line, and things are not going to get any better.

Chad Ochocinco

The Patriots throw for 384.8 YPG and Chad Ochocinco has 28.3 YPG.

Tom Brady is lighting it up, and thus far Mad Chad has been a spectator. He's still a great talent, but he won't find his groove on this football team.

Some were expecting him to put up Randy Moss numbers in the offense, but it's becoming more and more clear that Ocho is simply a glorified decoy—reserved for special packages.

He's only got seven catches on the year—Wes Welker has over four times more catches than Ochocinco. He doesn't have the rapport with Brady, and it doesn't look like they feel he's a central part of the offense.

Shonn Greene

The Jets strive to have the No. 1 rushing offense and defense in the league. Thus far, they've put forth a miserable effort on both fronts.

Shonn Greene is at the forefront of that disappointment—157 yards in four games is discouraging, and it's only going to get worse.

The Jets are imploding, and while they will undoubtedly turn it around, Greene will not. He's not a big-numbers guy in the first place.

Those who thought this would be his season to break loose and rush for 1,000 yards have been and will be sorely disappointed with Greene.
