New York Jets Doomed to Implode on National Stage vs. Ravens

Kyle VassaloOct 2, 2011

The Jets are on the verge of collapsing and everyone knows it. They face the Ravens this week and are doomed to suffer a miserable defeat, and to make matters worse it's going to be on national television for the entire country to see firsthand.

The Jets can't stop the run and they can't run the ball. That's not exactly a recipe for success when squaring off with the Ravens. A season ago, this matchup would be seen as two evenly matched smash-mouth football teams.

Now, the Jets are a shadow of the team they once were. Darren McFadden exposed their soft run defense, though Ray Rice knows he has his work cut out for him.

If and when the run game struggles against Ray Lewis and the Ravens defense, Mark Sanchez is going to have to try to move the ball through the air. Getting the Jets to get away from their game plan and putting all the pressure on Sanchez to deliver is a victory for the Ravens.

Terrell Suggs is going to dial up the pressure and will be able to pin his ears back once the Jets' run game fails to deliver yet again.

The Jets may be able to correct their mistakes at some point this season, but the Ravens are catching them at the opportune time. The Jets are down and out of sorts, and the Ravens are going to take advantage of their vulnerability.

The Jets are off their game and they've lost their swagger. This isn't going to be a very nice reunion for Ryan, who will prove to the Ravens organization that they made the right decision in hiring John Harbaugh as the head coach over Ryan.

This seemed like a matchup that may come about again in the postseason, but after last week it's clear that the Jets aren't going to sniff the postseason this year.

The Jets have been right on the cusp of a Super Bowl berth. Unfortunately, this regression is about to get very public. Ryan hasn't shied away from the camera while he's been winning. It will be interesting to see how he conducts himself as the coach of an NFL bottom feeder.
