Jets vs Ravens Sunday Night Football: Joe Flacco's Passing Attack Will Beat Jets

Nicholas GossOct 2, 2011

Quarterback Joe Flacco is making the Baltimore Ravens' passing attack one of the best in the NFL, something the franchise is not used to.

In the last 10 years, the Ravens have been one of the top teams in the AFC, and their perennial success is built on running the football and playing spectacular defense.

Many of those seasons could have ended with more success if the team had a top quarterback, but now the Ravens have a top gunslinger in Flacco.

Through three games this season, Flacco has 810 yards passing with seven touchdowns and two interceptions. Last week in a win against the St. Louis Rams, Flacco threw for 389 yards and three touchdowns.

The New York Jets are the Ravens opponent in Week 5, and Flacco will once again lead his team to victory through the air.

The Jets have a good defense, but Flacco has had success against good defenses this season. In the season opener against the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers defense, Flacco threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns.

Flacco knows he has one of the NFL's best running backs at his disposal, and despite passing the ball more than usual, he's not abandoning the talent of Rice.

What makes Rice so dangerous is his pass-catching ability and speed, and Flacco is getting him involved through the passing game with screen passes and short throws to the outside, where Rice can make defenders miss with his elusiveness.

Rice is similar to Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden in that he can rush for 100 yards and catch five to eight passes in one game.

McFadden had over 200 total yards against the Jets last week, and there's no reason why Rice can't hurt them them through the passing game, too.

Joe Flacco is leading a Ravens offense that is balanced and can beat you a multitude of ways, but most importantly, Flacco is improving with each season.

He's improved his touchdown pass totals in each of his three NFL seasons, and at his current pace this season, he will once again set a career high for passing scores.

Flacco and the prolific Baltimore Ravens passing attack will beat the Jets, which will help them improve to 3-1.
