Torrey Smith: Week 4 Fantasy Forecast for Baltimore Ravens Star WR

John HickeyJun 7, 2018

Rookie wide receiver Torrey Smith had a big debut last week for the Baltimore Ravens, with his first three NFL receptions all going for touchdowns.

That was against the defensively challenged St. Louis Rams, however, and Smith doesn’t figure to have that kind of day against the New York Jets, who possess one of the game’s better pass defenses.

Smith hooked up with Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco for those three scores, but Flacco also has four other touchdown passes in the first three weeks of the season to go with an average of 261.3 yards per game, so the Ravens’ passing game is revving up.

That being said, it’s hard to say that there is a better pair of cornerbacks anywhere than New York’s Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie.

The Jets are allowing just 188.7 yards per game through the air, so the Baltimore passing game is going to need to be at its best if Smith and company are going to put a hurt on New York.

Smith’s first career start came last week in backing up Lee Evans, who was out with an ankle injury that will keep him sidelined this week as well.

But if you are looking for motivation, this game will be a homecoming of sorts for Smith, who played his college ball at the University of Maryland and who has a built-in legion of fans that have seen him play before.

Just don’t count former Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, the Jets’ coach, among his fans.

Talking with the media this week, Ryan downplayed Smith’s performance.

"I will say this: I was a little shocked when I saw this kid catching three touchdowns in one quarter, and he really could have had five," Ryan said. "He’s a fast guy and all that kind of stuff, but I don’t think he’ll have equal success this week. If he does, then I’m just going to stay in Baltimore."
