Notre Dame Football: Does Purdue Thrashing Prove They Deserve Top 25 Ranking?

I've heard all of the complaints and arguments on how Notre Dame should be included in both Top 25 polls.

Finally now, I'm beginning to slightly agree.

Slightly.

The argument for the Irish is that they are better than all of the teams ranked ahead of them. I'm no fan of seeing 2-2 teams such as Florida State included in the rankings; especially since the Seminoles' two wins have been against Louisiana-Monroe and Charleston Southern.

The same case can be made for Virginia Tech, whose four wins have come against an FBS team, two Conference USA members and a Sun Belt Conference team.

Those resumes aren't exactly Top 25 worthy.

I can make the case against other teams, but you get the point,

Even though the Irish have two losses, their wins have come against Michigan State, Pitt and Purdue; all members of other BCS Conferences.

Even the Notre Dame losses have come against BCS Conference members. Their early schedule warrants consideration.

Browsing through the "Others Receiving Votes" category, Notre Dame is likely a better football team than everyone else there. The only team I wouldn't make a case for them against is South Florida, who defeated the Irish in Week 1.

Yet, it's not really a big deal, either way. Being ranked No. 25 is nothing to really brag about at this point in the season. Give Brian Kelly and his staff credit. The season could have gotten away from them very easily.

Yet, I mentioned earlier on that I only slightly agree with Notre Dame being ranked.

As much as you can make the case that they are only a few plays away from being 5-0, the facts are that they are only 3-2 and I can see why it's tough to make a case for them.

But with some of the teams ahead of them at the moment, I think now is the proper time to make the case that Notre Dame should have been included in the Top 25.
