Michael Vick Injury: Did Andy Reid Make Huge Mistake Rushing Eagles QB Back?

Mike FosterOct 2, 2011

Right now it seems pretty evident that the Philadelphia Eagles didn't rush Michael Vick back onto the field.

Vick got beaten and banged up in the past few games, with injuries to his head, neck, and hand, but he's come back strong today to lead the Eagles to a 20-3 lead.

He's currently 16-of-25 passing for 214 yards and two touchdowns, with a quarterback rating of 101.1.

This performance, if it holds strong, should erase the perception that Vick was being forced into play and hurting the team.

Many are arguing that Vick should be given time to rest, and that the Eagles aren't smart to play him with so many nagging injuries.

With Tony Romo doing what he's done in the past few weeks, that bar and standard definitely was raised regarding players playing through pain.

Vick's injuries might have also been emphasized and widely talked about more because of his comments made about getting unfairly treated by referees.

The truth is that the Eagles shouldn't even be pondering whether or not Michael Vick should play or not.

Who are we kidding? Vick makes the Eagles team what it is. Kevin Kolb is no longer around, and honestly the pressure was on Vick to play after a 1-2 start.

But, the Eagles coaching staff shouldn't be pondering whether or not Vick needs to take the field.

The issue is the offensive line, and if they are struggling it doesn't matter what quarterback you put back there.

They're going to get hit.

The difference is a hurt Michael Vick is still dynamic enough to be a winning Michael Vick, and Philadelphia needs Vick on the field if they are going to crawl out of their hole and earn their wings back.

If Vick is physically cleared to play by the medical staff, it would be foolish to sit him. It would only bring down the current perception and feeling in the Eagle's lockeroom.

If anything, seeing a banged up Vick take over and win a game should inspire this talented Eagles team. An inspired Eagles team, at this caliber, is a Super Bowl worthy team.

A Vickless Eagles team is a different story. Vick is performing well today, and things should start to go right for his team, and his health.
