Marques Colston: Saints WR Needs Time Before Making Fantasy Impact

Andrew KulhaOct 2, 2011

The good news for fans of the New Orleans Saints is that star wideout Marques Colston is apparently healthy enough to start playing.

It's actually exceptional news for Saints fans, considering the fact that Drew Brees was able to keep the offense intact and actually dangerous without Colston.

Imagine what the Saints offense would be able to do in 2011 when it's at full strength. That's what the Saints are hoping to acquire soon enough.

You may be wondering about Colston's fantasy impact, though.

He was expected to be a big contributor to fantasy teams that were lucky enough to pick him up in 2011, but so far fantasy owners have to be disappointed in him, right?

I think the answer is yes, but if you're expecting him to trot onto the field today or even next week for that matter and put up 100 yards and two touchdowns than you are just foolish.

It's going to take some time for Colston to get used to the game speed of the NFL, and it's going to take some time for him to get re-acclimated with the Saints offense.

Not only that, but the Saints aren't going to use him as much.

The smart thing to do is to ween him back into the game, and that is exactly how New Orleans is going to approach it.

It's great news for the Saints and for fantasy owners, especially considering Colston was expected to be out for much longer, but patience has to be the name of the game with him.

It's going to take Colston some time to get back to form, and it's going to take some time for the Saints to work him back into the offense.

I know it may be hard to hear, but that means it's going to take some time for him to make an impact in fantasy as well.

Go ahead and start Colston, but do so at your own risk.
