Marques Colston: Assessing Fantasy Week 4 Value of Saints WR

Andrea HangstOct 2, 2011

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston will start for the team today, a full two weeks before he was slated to return from a broken collarbone suffered in Week 1.

He joins a stable of highly productive wide receiver targets for quarterback Drew Brees, including Lance Moore, Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem, as well as tight end Jimmy Graham. This, as well as the injury (which is likely still bothering Colston despite his early return), should limit the amount of balls thrown his way today.

In fact, Colston is probably returning this early because he does not have to shoulder the bulk of the Saints' aerial production, meaning that his fantasy owners shouldn't take this week's start as a cue to start him on their respective rosters.

Rotowire further states that Colston will see just 15-20 snaps, and in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars that is likely to see a great number of Saints offensive snaps, this isn't enough to make a convincing case to start him on your fantasy roster this week.

I suggest Colston's fantasy owners sit him this week and pay close attention to both his mobility coming off of the injury and how productive he is when targeted by Brees. This will serve as a good indicator of what to expect for the receiver as the season goes on.

There's no doubt that, in a week or more, Colston will return to being a must-start-every-week fantasy wide receiver. But, in today's game, he should sit on your bench; he has too many question marks surrounding him to be a good play in Week 4.
