Tim Tebow: How Should Broncos Utilize QB vs. Green Bay Packers?

According to Jay Glazer, Tim Tebow will see time at quarterback vs. the Green Bay Packers.  This is a surprising development, as Kyle Orton is still considered the starter.  Unlike college football, the NFL rarely plays more than one quarterback.  In my opinion, the best course of action would be to keep Tebow on the bench.  The only other option is make Tebow the unquestioned starter.

Playing quarterback is dependent on the ability to get into a rhythm.  Constantly rotating quarterbacks will only stunt the rhythm of the offense.  This move will increase the quarterback controversy, likely putting more pressure on each player.  I anticipate both Tebow and Orton to press, while possibly making poor decisions in an attempt to make a play.

The exact plan for Tebow is unknown, but I expect him to play more than a wildcat role.  Inserting him as only a wildcat option would be telling.  If the Broncos decide to only use Tebow as a wildcat, it would show they have no confidence in his quarterback skills.

However, you have to figure that Tebow's playing time will come on specifically designed plays.  You can expect to see Tebow featured in the red zone.  His ability to run with the football makes him a real threat on the goal line.

This is a no-win situation, as it only creates unneeded controversy.  If the Broncos don't see Tebow as a quarterback then they need to have him make a position switch.  He is not going to benefit from being shuffled around from position to position.  Tebow won't improve as a quarterback if he is asked to enter the game for only gimmick plays.

Uncertainly at the quarterback position will negatively impact the players and team.  The Broncos deciding to play both Orton and Tebow is a major mistake.
