Jacoby Ford Injury: Assessing Oakland Raiders WR's Week 4 Fantasy Value

Ryan PhillipsOct 2, 2011

Oakland Raiders receiver Jacoby Ford has had a nice start to the season despite being a part of the NFL's 26th-ranked passing offense. The Raiders are averaging just 190.3 yards per game, and Ford is questionable for today's matchup against the New England Patriots.

If you have Ford, you should probably sit him this week. While the Patriots have the league's worst pass defense (allowing 377 yards per game), Oakland is sure to try to pound the ball on them. The Raiders enter the day with the league's top rushing offense (185 yards per game) and quarterback Jason Campbell hasn't exactly been convincing thus far.

While Ford's real value comes as a returner, in the one game he has played this season, he didn't actually get a chance to bring one out. Last year he had three returns for touchdowns, but the new kickoff rules have deeply hurt his overall value.

In Week 1 Ford suited up against the Denver Broncos and finished the afternoon with just three catches for 22 yards. After missing the past two weeks, he has been surpassed as a target by fellow receivers Denarius Moore and Derek Hagan.

While Ford is worth owning due to his value as a returner and his big-play ability as a receiver, you should definitely have him out of your lineup this week. We simply don't know how much of a part of the offense he'll be, and the Raiders have been so focused on their stellar rushing attack that Ford might not get a chance to do much.

If he's on your roster, don't release him, but there is probably no good reason to start Ford in Week 4.
