NFL Picks Week 4: Who Are This Week's Stone Cold Locks?

Ryan PhillipsOct 2, 2011

While nothing is ever certain in the NFL, there are two games in Week 4 that should be lopsided and are absolute locks to end up giving the home team a victory.

San Diego Chargers vs. Miami Dolphins

The 2-1 San Diego Chargers welcome the 0-3 Miami Dolphins to Qualcomm Stadium and this could be the week San Diego finally puts everything together. The Bolts have been unimpressive thus far, struggling in a loss to the New England Patriots, and not looking convincing in wins over the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs.

Quarterback Philip Rivers has thrown six interceptions through three weeks, and has just four touchdown passes to offset that number. With how good Rivers can be, that number should change, and this week he'll be facing the NFL's 30th-ranked passing defense (311 yards per game).

While the Dolphins have gained yards offensively this season (387.7 per game) the Chargers have a very good defense that should be able to shut down Miami's attack.

While the Chargers may not blow the Dolphins away, they are almost certain to send Miami to 0-4 with a solid victory. Rivers is bound to have a breakout game at some point and this is as good a week as any to expect it.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Indianapolis Colts

Despite being 2-1 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have not performed up to expectations this season. On Monday night, they will welcome the 0-3 Indianapolis Colts to town in a game that should help the Bucs turn things around.

Tampa Bay is currently 22nd in the NFL in total offense (315 yards per game) and 24th in total defense (384.7 yards per game). Neither one of those totals should excite anyone.

But the Buccaneers have still toughed out wins over Minnesota and the Atlanta Falcons, and on Monday night the hapless Colts shouldn't provide much of a challenge.

The Colts are without star quarterback Peyton Manning and this Curtis Painter will make his first professional start in his place. That fact alone should make the Bucs a complete lock in this one.

Expect Tampa Bay to roll at home on Monday night as Painter will struggle to do anything offensively.
