NFL Picks Week 4: Which Underdogs Are Sunday's Best Bets?

Jon DoveOct 2, 2011

The Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks are in a good position to pull off an upset victory.  The NFL has a very good competitive balance, but some teams are clearly less talented.  However, each team has enough talent to win on any given Sunday.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are an intriguing team, as they feature a young talented roster.

On the defensive side of the ball, Cincinnati has depth and talent.  The defensive line features several competent pass rushers, backed up by a good linebacking corps.

Offensively, they rely on Cedric Benson to establish the running game.  This takes the pressure off of rookies Andy Dalton and A.J. Green.

Today, Cincinnati hosts the undefeated Buffalo Bills.  This game has upset written all over it, as I am not convinced the Buffalo Bills are for real.  They have some very good wins, but still lack enough elite talent to be contenders.

Buffalo is coming off their emotional victory over the New England Patriots, leaving them vulnerable for a let down.

Arizona Cardinals

Kevin Kolb and Larry Fitzgerald have formed a quick bond, showing they have a bright future.  However, the Cardinals have been inconsistent, loosing some close games.

They are underdogs today vs. the New York Giants.  The Giants are coming off a big win vs the Philadelphia Eagles.

New York should be on upset alert, as they have several warning signs.  First, they had to travel across country to Arizona, likely leaving them with a bit of travel fatigue.  Playing on the road is not an easy task, especially when having to travel across country.

The Giants are also coming off an emotional victory vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.  Teams are prone to having a let down after such a big victory.

Lastly, the Giants are still dealing with a lot of injuries, especially in the secondary.  Their losses in the secondary will provide a mismatch for the Cardinals and Fitzgerald.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have managed to remain competitive, despite their lacking quarterback play. Today they have an opportunity to pull off an upset by defeating the Atlanta Falcons.

Atlanta has not looked very good this season. They appeared primed for a Super Bowl run, but the offense has not been able to find consistency. On the defensive side of the ball, they have struggled with basic tackling.

The Seahawks are a tough team to face at home, as their stadium is one of the loudest in the NFL.
