Week 13 Review of the NFL: The Bubble Has Burst!

Thomas MorelandNov 30, 2008

Playoff hopes of some teams were seriously in doubt after this week's action in the league. Big losers this week included Green Bay, losing to Carolina; San Diego, falling to Atlanta; and New Orleans, losing a close one to Tampa Bay.

Let's look at all the scores.

On Thanksgiving Day, Tennessee rolled in Detroit, beating the Lions 47-10. Dallas beat Seattle in another blowout 34-9, and Philadelphia mauled Arizona 48-20.

On Sunday, Carolina put serious doubts on Green Bay making the playoffs with a 35-31 win in Green Bay. Carolina stays tied with Tampa Bay for that division at 9-3.

Atlanta moved up to 8-4 with a win over San Diego, who fell to 4-8. Atlanta stays in contention for a wild card spot in the NFC.

Denver moved to 7-5 and a three game lead over San Diego with four games left. Denver will win the AFC West Division and move on to the playoffs.  San Diego is left wondering what happened this year, as they lost four games in the last 24 seconds this season.

Miami beat the Rams in a field goal battle to move to 7-5 and stay in contention for a wild card or [gulp] division title? The Jets are 8-4 and Miami is tied with New England once again.

Buffalo is at 6-6 and one game behind the Dolphins. They play each other next week in a big AFC match-up.

Pittsburgh beat New England easily 33-10 to move to 9-3 and maintain a one game lead on the Baltimore Ravens for that division. They play one more time this season.

The Ravens also won easily to keep wild card hopes alive, against the hapless Bengals 34-3.

Kansas City beat Oakland in a totally meaningless game, 20-13.

The Giants continued their domination of the league, beating the Redskins handily 23-7 and marching onwards towards another playoff run to the Super Bowl.

San Francisco played great defense in a win for Mike Singletary against the Buffalo Bills, who fell to 6-6 in a 10-3 loss.

Tampa Bay pulled out another victory, coming back to beat New Orleans 23-20.

Indianapolis kept their own playoff hopes brewing with victory over Cleveland 10-6. Indy is now 8-4 and is in the hunt for a wild card in the AFC.

Minnesota played Chicago at home on Sunday night for the division lead.  This game is huge, as Green Bay lost earlier to Carolina. The winner will be a favorite to make the playoffs as a division winner.Minnesota wins to take the division lead at 7-5. Bears are at 6-6. Green Bay is 5-7.

No wild cards will come out of the NFC North.

I am 8-7 this week..  A rough week!  Monday night I have Houston at home. Currently I am at 123-69-1 for the season.

Good luck to all your teams in their drive for the playoffs this season.
