UFC on Versus 6 Results: 3 Fights for Dominick Cruz to Take Next

Vince CareyOct 1, 2011

It wasn’t his best performance, and something looked a little bit off, but Dominick Cruz still had no problem dominating Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson in the UFC on Versus 6 main event.

Cruz has now defended his title four times since he won it from Brian Bowles back at WEC 47 and has taken out the very best the division has to offer.

While that is adding to his legend, it is making future opponents hard to come by, which is why his next fight will likely be a rematch.

Joseph Benavidez

Urijah Faber’s teammate at Team Alpha Male was one of the first opponents to give Cruz real trouble, and both of the fights between Cruz and Benavidez were regarded as instant classics by MMA fans.

Benavidez is always in the top five in the bantamweight division and rightfully so, as his only two losses have come at the hands of the champion.

It will likely take another win or two for Benavidez to get another shot at the belt, but if he does, expect another classic from two of the top 135 lb fighters of all time.

Urijah Faber

The only man to ever defeat Cruz, Faber is still a serious threat to "The Dominator’s" spot atop the bantamweight division.

A close fight at UFC 132 almost prompted Dana White to give Faber an immediate rematch, but the UFC decided to give Johnson the next shot, leaving Faber to earn his shot in a No. 1 contender’s fight with Brian Bowles.

If Faber is able to get another shot at Cruz, rest assured that the bad blood between the two isn’t gone, and they will both be foaming at the mouth for a rubber match.

Brian Bowles

The man who Cruz won the title from way back in March of 2010 is also the one guy who Cruz never beat cleanly.

Bowles broke his hand early on in their title fight and was forced to give up the belt, giving Cruz the belt in the process.

Now just a win away from a shot at earning his belt back, Bowles will have to get past Urijah Faber at UFC 139 to get a shot at redemption.
