Details on The Big 12’s unique partnership with the Gator Bowl

Jeff WilliamsNov 30, 2008

The Big 12 has always assured its teams are able to participate in some of the top bowl games at the conclusion of each regular season. There will be no change in that situation for the league’s 13th year.

In addition to its membership in the Bowl Championship Series, the Big 12 will have agreements with seven other bowl games in place for 2008-09. Last season, the Big 12 had eight squads take part in postseason competition. Again this season, the Big 12 has eight bowl slots guaranteed. The Conference is partnered with nine bowls.

However the arrangement with the Gator Bowl is for it to select a Big 12 team twice over a four-year period. In the two years in which the Gator does not select a Big 12 team, the Sun Bowl will.

Following is the Big XII Bowl Selection order:
BCS
Cotton
Holiday
Gator (when it selects a Big 12 team)
Alamo
Sun (when the Gator does not take a Big 12 team)
