NFL Picks Week 4: Locks for Every Game on This Week's Slate

Kyle VassaloOct 1, 2011

It's only Week 4, but playoff hopefuls have been pushed into squalor and teams who missed the playoffs last season have fans coming in droves to hop on the bandwagon.

This week will be yet another week for promising teams to prove themselves. As cellar dwellers look to turn their season around and teams off to a quick start look to build on their success, a lack of divisional games doesn't take away from the excitement surrounding this week.

Here is how every game this week will shake out.

Note: All Lines According to Bodog

Carolina Panthers vs. Chicago Bears

1 of 16

Current Odds: Panthers +7

Why the Bears Will Win:

Cam Newton is on pace to have a historic rookie season, but he's going to be under fire this week. He doesn't have the weapons to get the better of the Bears defense with Julius Peppers making his life miserable.

Jay Cutler's protection has to pick up, but they should have no problem moving the football. Matt Forte is off to a stellar start and the Panthers don't have an answer for him defensively.

Buffalo Bills vs. Cincinnati Bengals

2 of 16

Current Odds: Bills -3

Why the Bills Will Win:

The Buffalo Bills are a perfect 3-0 and after taking down the Patriots, no team has more confidence than Buffalo. The Bills are going to score points on the Bengals and Andy Dalton has no chance in a shootout with Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The Bengals have the upper hand in a defensive struggle, but there is no way they are going to have an answer for everything the Bills throw at them.

Titans vs. Browns

3 of 16

Current Odds: Titans -1

Why the Titans Will Win:

The Browns looked impressive last week without Peyton Hillis, but they face an uphill battle this week. A frustrated Chris Johnson is long overdue for a big game and the Browns allowing just shy of 130 yards a game gives him the perfect opportunity to do so.

Kenny Britt is down, but the Titans aren't through winning just yet. Hillis shouldn't have an immediate impact upon his return, as his serious weight loss points to his sickness playing a part in this game.

Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys

4 of 16

Current Odds: Detroit Lions +1

Why the Cowboys Will Win:

Bruised and battered, an injured Cowboys team isn't letting a few bumps and bruises keep them from winning. Healthy offensive players are a rarity in Dallas, but they continue to produce.

Detroit has a ferocious defense and Tony Romo is going to be under fire. Even so, the Lions are on the road and the Cowboys are coming off a big win. Felix Jones has proven that he can be a factor with a separated shoulder and Romo continues to impress with a cracked rib.

Washington Redskins vs. St. Louis Rams

5 of 16

Current Odds: Redskins -3

Why the Redskins Will Win:

The Rams are completely out of sorts and Sam Bradford is going to be under fire this week. St. Louis has been buried by a tough schedule and this will be more of the same for the Rams. They are 0-3 and facing a tough Redskins team who is looking to build on their hot start.

Rex Grossman will be exposed at some point in this season, but the Rams don't have the personnel to get it done. The Redskins have the upper hand on both sides of the ball and home-field advantage won't bail out the Rams.

San Francsico 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles

6 of 16

Current Odds: 49ers +9

Why the 49ers Will Win:

The Eagles are on the verge of falling apart. DeSean Jackson's contract situation is affecting his play, Michael Vick can't stay healthy and their run defense is horrendous. They are at home, but it's hard to say being at home is an advantage, as fed up Philly fans are going to let their team feel their disappointment.

The 49ers have struggled to move the ball this season, but the Eagles' porous run defense is going to prove to be a liability once more. The Eagles narrowly escaped the 49ers last season and this is a trap game not even Vegas sees coming.

New Orleans Saints vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

7 of 16

Current Odds: Saints -7 1/2

Why the Saints Will Win:

Marques Colston is coming back and the Jaguars can't possibly match up with the firepower Drew Brees and the Saints offense carries. The Jags have been impressive on defense thus far, but New Orleans won't have a problem scoring points and when they do, the Jaguars won't be able to keep up.

Maurice Jones-Drew has a great opportunity to break loose this week, but the Jaguars are too one dimensional to move the ball as much as they'll need to. Blaine Gabbert faces a huge challenge in going against Drew Brees in a high-scoring game.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Houston Texans

8 of 16

Current Odds: Steelers +4

Why the Texans Will Win:

The Texans have the edge on both sides of the ball in this matchup. The Steelers are underachieving on defense and beginning to show their age. Matt Schaub and the Texans offense don't need a healthy Arian Foster to carve up the Steelers.

Wade Phillips is going to destroy Ben Roethlisberger, who is behind a line that is amongst the worst in the entire league. The Texans could orchestrate a blowout in front of their home crowd after a disappointing loss.

New York Giants vs. Arizona Cardinals

9 of 16

Current Odds: Giants -1 1/2

Why the Gaints Will Win:

The Cardinals are coming off of a loss to the Seahawks, while the Giants moved to 2-1 after dominating the Eagles. The Giants have the passing attack to compete with whatever the Cardinals are able to do offensively and the Cardinals aren't going to be able to handle the Ahmad Bradshaw/ Brandon Jacobs tandem.

The Cardinals only have one win on the season and it's clear that their problems stem far beyond who is under center.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Seattle Seahawks

10 of 16

Current Odds: Falcons -5 1/2

Pick: Seattle Seahawks

Why the Seahawks Will Win:

Qwest Field is one of the toughest places to play in the entire league. The Falcons are struggling to decide what type of offense they want to be and they could struggle in the loud and hostile environment in Seattle.

The Falcons are coming off a heart-breaking loss and have no idea they are entering a trap game. As long as Tarvaris Jackson refrains from giving the ball away, the Seahawks are going to be in business.

Denver Broncos vs. Green Bay Packers

11 of 16

Current Odds: Packers -13

Why the Packers Will Win:

It's no surprise that the Packers enter this game undefeated. Aaron Rodgers has kept up his stellar play and Jermichael Finley returning from injury brings an entirely new dimension to an already explosive offense.

Don't buy into the Broncos passing attack this week. Though the Packers have struggled against the pass and Nick Collins is out for the season, they haven't had a shortage of turnovers. Green Bay will take advantage of the mistakes the Broncos are sure to make.

New England Patriots vs. Oakland Raiders

12 of 16

Current Odds: Patriots -5 1/2

Why the Raiders Will Win:

Darren McFadden is going to destroy the Patriots. Just as the Bills were able to dismantle the Patriots' defense last week, the Raiders are going to be able to move the ball up and down the field at will.

The Patriots have been exposed and their elite passing attack can't make up for their defensive shortcomings every week. Tom Brady won't throw four picks against this week, but he's going to find himself in another high-scoring affair and the Patriots defense will offer no resistance again.

Miami Dolphins vs. San Diego Chargers

13 of 16

Current Odds: Dolphins +7

Why the Chargers Will Win:

The chargers survived a scare against the Chiefs last week, but their matchup against the Dolphins won't be nearly as close. Philip Rivers and the Chargers will be able to take advantage of a weak Dolphins defense and Chad Henne will become the turnover machine we all know he's capable of being.

The Dolphins are struggling offensively and Brandon Marshall is disgruntled. Clearly nabbing a change-of-pace back of Reggie Bush's caliber wasn't the answer to their problems. The Dolphins won't throw anything at the Chargers that they Greg Manusky's defense can't handle.

New York Jets vs. Baltimore Ravens

14 of 16

Current Odds: Jets +4

Why the Ravens Will Win:

The Jets can't stop the run and can't get anything going on the ground. It's uncharacteristic for Rex Ryan's Jets and it's costing them dearly. The Raiders ran through the Jets defense without any problems and Ray Rice has to be smiling from ear to ear as he watches the film.

The Jets don't have the means to stop Rice on the ground and this is not the week they are going to turn around their struggles in the run game. It's going to be another tough week for the Jets as Ryan has a disappointing reunion with Ray Lewis and the Ravens.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Kansas City Chiefs

15 of 16

Current Odds: Vikings -3

Why the Vikings Will Win:

The Vikings and Chiefs both have yet to win a game this season. Even so, they are in completely different situations. The Vikings struggle to close out games, while the Chiefs just flat out struggle. The Chiefs are awful on both sides of the ball and their two best players are hurt.

Adrian Peterson needs to touch the ball even more as the Vikings try to figure out what to do with their quarterback situation. Even if Donovan McNabb struggles, Matt Cassel will struggle more en route to the Chiefs' fourth loss of the season. Arrowhead is a scary place to play on the road, but the fans are going to turn on an indifferent Chiefs squad.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

16 of 16

Current Odds: Colts +10 1/2

Why the Buccaneers Will Win:

Curtis Painter is starting on the road on Monday Night Football. While we could stop right there, he's not the only reason the Colts have no shot. The offensive line has serious protection issues, the weapons on the Colts are non-factors without Peyton Manning on the field and the defense has trouble against opponents on the ground and through the air.

LeGarrette Blount looks better every time we see him and he should have a field day against a soft Colts defense. The Colts looked solid last week against the Steelers, but they are guaranteed to move to 0-4 this week.
