LSU Football: Why Jarrett Lee Gives the Tigers the Best Chance to Win Title

With Jordan Jefferson coming back to the LSU Tigers squad one would suggest that he would regain his starting quarterback spot from Jarrett Lee.

Absolutely not.

If it isn’t broke, why fix it? Lee has led the Tigers to their undefeated start including three ranked victories away from home. Les Miles shouldn’t risk the momentum of the team by mixing a player who hasn’t played all season long. It would be a major mistake.

Jefferson would be perfect for goal line situations, third down situations and just to throw the defense off balance. If he is going to be a part of the offense, he would be tailor-made for those situations.

Until Lee loses a game, Miles should not go to Jefferson as the starter at any time this season. Jefferson threw seven touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions in 2010.

Lee has improved in his four-year LSU career. His freshman campaign saw him throw more interceptions (16) than touchdowns (13) but he has proved to Miles that he can protect the football in 2011.

He has thrown six touchdowns compared to one interception in 2011. Lee is connecting on 64 percent of his passes while holding a quarterback rating above 145.

Even if Lee would struggle in a game, but win, Miles should not go to Jefferson. The team is doing fine without him at the helm and they would be making a huge mistake that could cost them a national championship opportunity.

Its clear what the fans want—Lee. After Jefferson entered the game, a course of boos came Jefferson’s way.

Lee has earned his stripes as Tigers’ quarterback. He has proven that he can lead this team better than Jefferson can.

He gives the Tigers the best chance to win a championship. Until proven otherwise, Lee deserves to be the starter for the No. 1 team in the nation.
