Fantasy Football Week 4: James Starks and 3 RBs to Avoid

Richard LangfordOct 1, 2011

The following three running backs may look like tempting plays this week for fantasy owners, but you have to avoid them. These guys are not going to produce.

Green Bay Packers' RB James Starks

The temptation is there to start James Starks this week. Ryan Grant has a bruised kidney, which will mean more carries for Starks.

However, Starks will be splitting time with John Kuhn. The Packers like to use Kuhn near the goal line anyways. Kuhn will destroy Starks ability to score.

Further adding to his run woes is the fact that he is facing an improving Broncos' rushing attack. Denver is 14th in the league in rushing defense and they are coming off an impressive performance against the Titans where they held Chris Johnson to just 21 yards.

Detroit Lions' RB Jahvid Best

Masked in the Lions tremendous start is the fact that their running game has been awful. Best is averaging just 2.9 yards on 49 carries and he has only one touchdown.

They go up against an outstanding Cowboys' rushing defense this week. The Cowboys are second in the NFL at 61.3 rushing yards allowed per game. Best won't be rushing anywhere this week.

He will add a little value receiving the ball, but not enough to warrant starting him.

Houston Texans' RB Arian Foster/Ben Tate

Gary Kubiak told the press, and I quote from CBS.com, that Foster will be put back to work full-time this week. I'd hold off a week before starting Foster though.

First, I want to see how Foster's hamstring holds up. Second, I want to see what Kubiak means by full-time. Is this 15 carries, 20 carries or 25 carries? They have been reluctant to itch Ben Tate's carries so far.

Third, they are playing the Steelers. The Steelers' rush defense has not been the beast it was last year, but I wouldn't be shocked to see them put up a great performance here.

The bottom line: Hold off on Foster. And with Kubiak committing to Foster, you also have to leave Tate on the bench.
