Carlos Tevez: 10 Best Moments for Manchester City

Sam TigheOct 3, 2011

Life with Carlos Tevez has been many things for Manchester City.

It's been profitable in goals and excitement yet hindered by off-field antics. No-one changes their mind as much as Carlos Tevez does and while he's been prolific for the Blues he's been a real pain too.

Nevertheless, for the objective football fan only wishing for entertainment, there has been no better in the Premier League for some time. He is a wonderfully skilled footballer and a credit to the Premier League but it seems, after his last outburst, that his days are truly numbered here.

Let's look back at some of the best moments surrounding Carlos Tevez in a Manchester City shirtthere's no shortage of them!

The Hype Around the Signing

1 of 10

Despite the drama he has caused for Manchester City, there's no doubt he's been a phenomenal player for them.

The hype surrounding his signing was unbelievable. The tension was due to the fact that he was coming over from city neighbours, and fierce rivals, Manchester United. United fans didn't want him to leave and desperately wished for Sir Alex Ferguson to pay the estimated big money million fee it would take to land him.

But it was Mark Hughes who snapped him up and it was clear that Manchester City meant business. The excitement of landing a world class striker AND stealing him from your rivals was almost too good to be true.

Welcome to Manchester

2 of 10

One of the memorable actions of a club's board, upon signing for Manchester City Tevez was greeted by the billboard 'Welcome to Manchester'.

It was a deep dig at their arch rivals United as they really felt they had stolen their player since Fergie opted against paying the quoted fee for him.

For once, City fans had something to smile about at the expense of United fans and they were to milk it for all it's worth.

First Manchester Derby as a City Player

3 of 10

This wasn't so much a Carlos Tevez moment but an epic game in the history of the Manchester derbies. It didn't end in the right result for City, but it was Tevez's first game against United since leaving them.

He made his mark of course, setting up one of the goals in a 4-3 thriller which saw Craig Bellamy score two stunning goals.

His ability to put the occasion behind him somewhat and turn in a good performance was indicative of the kind of player he has been for City all along.

Gary Neville Feud

4 of 10

After Gary Neville backed Sir Alex Ferguson in not paying big money to sign Tevez permanently, The Argentine accused Neville of being a 'boot licker' and simply sucking up to his manager.

This, on the eve of the Manchester derby at City's stomping ground, followed a provocative goal celebration in City's 2-1 win when Tevez scoredbut he wished to make it clear it was only aimed at Neville.

"I don't know what the hell that idiot is talking about me for. I never said anything about him." - Classic Carlos!

Issues with Training

5 of 10

"The players are not happy with this," Tevez said. "We are at the end of a long season, we have big matches, we are tired but there are still double training sessions, morning and afternoon. Then, the next day, we train for two hours. I do not understand. But, please, he is the coach and I am the player. He is in charge. I am OK with him."

Another strong set of quotes from Captain Carlos who knows how to make his feelings clear. Mancini's appointment, replacing the the sacked Mark Hughes, looked a good one on face value as the results immediately turned around but apparently it was far from happy days behind the scenes at one stage.

The Transfer Request

6 of 10

Amidst Manchester City moving to the top of the table in December 2010, Carlos Tevez handed in a formal written transfer request. The news came as an unsettling blow to a high-flying City team as their captain yet again suggested he simply wasn't happy in Manchester.

Tevez's problems have been well documented and the issues he was having at the time regarding his family business was regrettable, but the decision to hand in a request was poorly timed. He even stated he was considering retirement at just 26 years of age.

FA Cup Win

7 of 10

It's not all drama!

One of the best moments in Tevez's career at Manchester City just has to be lifting the FA Cup. He helped his team end their long trophy drought by lifting England's major domestic cup dispatching Stoke City in the final and Manchester United along the way.

The game was by no means a classic at 1-0 and City were under a fair amount of pressure at the end from Stoke, but the cup win was well deserved after a good season from the Citizens in which they made huge strides towards stardom.

The 'Nearly Move' to Corinthians

8 of 10

Carlos Tevez was made available for transfer by Manchester City in the summer of 2011 and invited clubs to match their valuation which stood at approximately £40-50m.

At one point it looked like noone could afford the Argentinian star, but then Corinthians—Tevez's former club from his playing days in Brazilstarted negotiations and it looked like Tevez would be taking his leave.

The deal fell through however and the usual suitors that are bandied around by the media like Real Madrid or Internazionale never came up with an offer so Carlos has continued with City this season.

Refusing to Play Ball

9 of 10

Perhaps it is harsh to criticise him—the story isn't clear yet.

But it certainly seems, on the face of it all, like Carlos Tevez refused to play against Bayern Munich and has played last game for City.

Roberto Mancini is understandably furious with him and has made all sorts of remarks about leaving him on the tarmac in Munich and going home.

He is currently suspended for two weeks but his time at City really does seem to be at the end of the road.

West Ham Loan Bid

10 of 10

A very laughable moment to end on. Despite Carlos Tevez's heroics for City, it really is a measure of how his career has turned sour in Manchester when your club is rebuffing loan bids for you from a Championship club.

The affinity between Carlos Tevez and West Ham is undeniable. But Manchester City are finally doing what Tevez promised he would bring them; playing amongst Europe's elite. And what is he doing?

Probably packing his bags. It's been an eventful ride Carlos, but you've been a great player for Manchester City and a treasure in the Premier League.

I hope you've enjoyed 10 of Tevez's best moments for Cityshare yours in the comments if you think I've missed some!
