Florida vs. Alabama: Crimson Tide Will Move to No. 1 After Gator Beatdown

Kyle VassaloSep 30, 2011

Alabama squares off against Florida this week, and a big win for the Crimson Tide will make it impossible for voters to keep them out of the No. 1 spot.

Alabama has two wins over ranked opponents already this season, and after this week, they will be equally as battle-tested as LSU. Both will have three wins over top 25 teams, and the Alabama defense is one game away from establishing themselves as the best in the nation.

The Crimson Tide allow an incredible eight points a game. If they can even slightly sustain that sort of defensive production this week, they'll cement themselves as the best defense in the conference and the nation in general.

Trent Richardson is really coming on now, and though Florida has put forth a shut-down defense as well, they haven't seen a team like Alabama yet. In fact, they haven't played anyone worth mentioning yet.

Florida took down Tennessee and that's all well and good, but this game is being looked upon as a trap game, and it isn't so.

Alabama just blew away Arkansas, who, like Florida, rose through the ranks as a result of having a cupcake schedule.

The days of Florida getting a free ride are over. They face Alabama this week and LSU next week. After these two weeks are through, Florida will be seen in an entirely different light.

Oklahoma plays Ball St. and LSU plays Kentucky. Both are sure wins, but they won't resonate in the minds of voters like Alabama's monster win over Florida.

LSU can't ride their win over Oregon in Week 1 forever. After this week, Alabama and LSU will be equally battle-tested and Alabama is going to swing far more votes for the top spot.
