Impact Wrestling: 8 Reasons Bobby Roode Will Not Win the TNA World Title

David LevinSep 29, 2011

I hate to be the Devil's Advocate in all this, but I am going to try to put my other hat on and explore the possibility that Bobby Roode does not win the TNA World Title at Bound for Glory in two weeks.

While we have seen everyone and their mother come to the ring and praise him for his work and his effort, it still comes down to one thing: HE HASN'T WON THE TITLE YET.

The Bound for Glory Series was a masterstroke of genius with TNA and its creative team, giving fans a chance to see matches they might not have seen ever again.

And with the scramble at the end and the tension brought on by the four finalists, which included Roode's partner, James Storm, it proved that TNA can do something right from time to time.

After seeing Roode face another Fortune member in AJ Styles tonight, which was an amazing match, I am not so sure Roode will win in his match with Kurt Angle.

For years, it was the Hulk Hogans and Ric Flairs that held onto the strap year after year, only to allow someone else to carry it around from time to time until it was reclaimed by its owner. This went on for decades. Now there are others who can take the strap and run with it.

We now know after watching Impact that Hogan is about to retire and Flair is holding on just long enough to pay off the IRS and hopefully retire to Charlotte with some of his dignity left.

Roode, a 13-year veteran of the business, is ideal to take the torch from Angle and run with it, but it has looked too easy over the past few weeks and while Roode is the "appointed" one right now, others will have their shots as well.

But, with any big PPV like this and the storyline the way it is, there is always a chance that the right thing does not happen.

Here are a few reasons why the crowning of the new champion may not take place like we had hoped.

8. He Has Already Been Declared the Champion

1 of 8

All too often, we see someone as a champion, and it never happens. Piper, Orndorff, Valentine. They all could have carried the title, but they were held back but the Flairs and Hogans of wrestling.

Since he won BFG, all the players have called him champion. Even his teammates in Fortune who have faced him (Kazarian and AJ Styles) think he is ready.

And he says he is.

I think there just may be a red flag there.

7. The Path May Have Worn Him Down

2 of 8

Talk about a hard road to travel.

Kazarian, AJ Styles and then James Storm next week.

It is all about winning and being ready. While Roode is beating his teammates and they are giving him the best they have to offer, they are wearing him down as well.

You also see that during the matches, Roode is cautious with them, worried he may not give them everything he has and then there is the fatigue you see, where injury may set in.

It is a slippery slope.

6. Jeff Hardy Could Get Involved in This

3 of 8

Last week, Hardy told Kurt Angle to his face that the reason Angle is upset at seeing the Charismatic Enigma again is that he could be a threat for the world title.

What if he is?

We haven't seen Hardy wrestle yet, but what if he comes into the arena next week and starts something, lets it hang over until BFG and then interferes in the title match?

We know something like this does happen and could happen.

5. Eric Bischoff Always Has the Final Say

4 of 8

He and his creative team could want Angle as the champion right until he leaves the company for Olympic training.

It goes back to the days in WCW when he always found a way to keep a strap on someone in the nWo.

He makes the rules and he continues to change them to his advantage.

4. Gunner

5 of 8

Or anyone in Immortal (except Abyss). They band together and cause issues for the good guys.

Remember, Gunner attacked James Storm in Storm's match against Angle last week.

Roode stormed the ring and took out Gunner.

Payback time?

3. AJ Styles

6 of 8

I don't think this happens, but Styles, as he said in the ring, hasn't gotten a title shot in a while.

Taz thought getting gold was all that was important to Styles.

The two teammates put on one hell of a show, but as you know, once you have a title, you want another one.

2. Angle Beats Him Clean

7 of 8

Unlikely to happen, but it could.

Remember, this may be the last time we see Angle in quite a while.

Look for something to happen, but Angle is still the great competitor that he is and can beat just about anyone at any time.

1. James Storm

8 of 8

I still think that after the two face each other next week, there will be tension.

Much like Ole and Arn Anderson or Arn Anderson and Ric Flair or even The Miz and John Morrison, tag teams break up and there is hostility.

Storm swears he is not jealous but wished it was him. We will see when the two face off next week and whether there is hangover after the match leading into the PPV.
