NFL Predictions Week 4: Cam Newton and 3 Rookies That Will Have Big Games

Michael DixonJun 4, 2018

It's not that there are no good defensive rookies in the league. Actually, there are a lot of good defensive rookies.

But offense has been the story of the first three Weeks of the NFL season. So, as we prepare for Week 4, let's keep our attention there.

What rookies are going to continue to impress us this week?

Sure, we can expect big things from Cam Newton, but he's not the only one. Actually, he's not even the only quarterback.

Blaine Gabbert

Even though it came in a loss, Gabbert's NFL debut was quite impressive. Not many quarterbacks would say no to 17-for-27, 191 yards, one touchdown and one pick in their NFL debut.

While the Saints are one of the top teams in the NFL, their pass defense leaves a little to be desired. They do force turnovers and attack the quarterback. That's something that Gabbert will need to adjust to.

I'm not saying that Gabbert won't experience any growing pains, but I do see him shining.

Julio Jones

Jones' NFL career is off to a good start. I see that continuing for another week. If you don't believe me, I have two words for you.

Seattle Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks defense will have hard time containing any offense that has a good quarterback running the show. Matt Ryan certainly qualifies.

Even last year when the Seahawks beat the Saints in the playoffs, it was in a shootout. They certainly didn't do much to contain Drew Brees.

When a quarterback has a good day, the odds are good that at least one of his receivers will have a good day too.

The Falcons also have Roddy White as a great receiving option, but there will be plenty of yards for both White and Jones.

Cam Newton

Okay, Newton isn't the only good rookie. Still, I would be foolish to not mention him.

I'll say think that the Bears will win this game. Part of the reason I see Newton having a big game is that he'll be forced to pass a lot.

The Bears have allowed 250 or more yards in each of their three games this year. Drew Brees' 270-yard output in Week 2 was the worst game by yardage that the Bears have allowed.

I don't know that Newton is on par with Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers or Brees, but he's off to a red-hot start.

Again, I don't think it will come in a win, but Newton will continue his torrid start for at least one more week.
