WWE Hell in a Cell 2011: Previews and Predictions
This Sunday, WWE will present the third annual Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View. This PPV come a mere two weeks after the previous PPV Night of Champions.
With only five official matches confirmed for the event, the card seems a little thin, so expect to see last minute matches added on the night.
With there being criticism of having 13 PPVs per year, WWE will need to put on a great show to gratify those fans who have forked out twice in a month to watch the two events.
Let's take a look at the matches lined up for the evening.
Diva's Championship: Kelly Kelly (C) vs Beth Phoenix
1 of 7Is there anyone out there who is even slightly enthused by the Diva's division?
When the Divas of Doom came on the scene a month or so ago, it seemed like the Diva's division was going to be saved. Since the departures of Gail Kim and Melina, It has been obvious that Natalya and Beth Phoenix are the most talented female wrestlers in the WWE and therefore it has been widely expected that Kelly Kelly would drop the title quickly to one of the two.
The current Divas feud has been less than inspiring in terms of both promos and matches, and I don't think I'd be the only one that just wishes this current feud would just go away so that Phoenix and Natalya can start facing off in real matches rather than the embarrassing spectacles that Kelly Kelly continually produces.
Unfortunately, I don't think that the Divas' Championship will be leaving Kelly Kelly at Hell in a Cell. Kelly Kelly may as well put on a red/purple/orange shirt and don a pair of Jorts, because she's basically the fruity pebble of the Diva's division.
I'm expecting some miscommunication between Natalya and Beth to give Kelly the victory in order to get the ball rolling on a feud that I really hope is round the corner.
Also, could I pose a question to all of you? Would anyone really be disappointed if the Divas division ceased to exist?
My Prediction
Kelly Kelly to retain.
Sin Cara vs Sin Cara
2 of 7This is the match that I'm sure we're all looking forward to. Admittedly, it is going to be so difficult for the WWE to build up a real storyline beyond Hell in a Cell due to Luis Alvirde's (or Face Sin Cara) difficulties with the English language, but regardless of this fact, this match is certain to be a spotfest.
If there's one thing that we've all learned, it's that dual character storylines don't tend to last, so it's a wonder as to when these two will enter into their inevitable "Mask vs. Mask" match. If the two wrestlers have been left to let their creative juices flow for this match, then we will see some epic moments that could steal the show.
On the other hand, there is something about the match that worries me. This is the fact that this is the sort of match that we've all been waiting for since Sin Cara arrived on the scene. Therefore, I can't help that feel that WWE will end this match in a stupid way to leave the fans wanting more.
Ignoring the glamour of the amazing spots that fans will be hoping for, this feud as a whole has several barriers that will need to be overcome if it is to be a truly great feud. These are the language barrier, botches and storyline.
Botches and language barrier are self-explanatory, but the storyline issue stems from the simple question; What would anyone have to gain from impersonating Sin Cara? It will be interesting to see how the WWE answers this question.
My Prediction
Heel Sin Cara to pick up the win to keep the storyline going
Unannounced Match
3 of 7The obvious omission from the card is Dolph Ziggler.
Ziggler appears to have several feuds running. There's his United States Championship feud with Zack Ryder. There's his beef with Mason Ryan for screwing him over this past Monday night. There's his jealousy of Jack Swagger for being the newest member of Vickie Guerrero's stable and there's the idea that he and Swagger are going to form a cohesive unit to take on the rest of the WWE.
This is a lot for one Superstar, don't you think? One thing is for sure, this extra space on the Hell in a Cell Card will surely be filled by Ziggler in some capacity, but how?
Ziggler vs. Ryder for the US Title
This would be the rematch from MNR and would be the most likely of all the options to be a match at the PPV. The whole of the WWE Universe is behind Zack Ryder, who gets an incredible pop when he makes appearances on the live shows, and maybe it is time that Ziggler dropped the US Title in order to launch himself into the WWE Title scene.
If this this match did happen at HIAC, then the most likely outcome would be Ziggler retaining, because there's been no real build up or storyline to this feud.
Ziggler vs. Swagger for the US Title
Two weeks ago, I would have said that this would be the most likely Ziggler bout for HIAC, but now I think that this would be two steps back after one-step forward for Team Vickie.
This past week the pair actually began to work as a cohesive unit, and it would be silly to go back on this to start a feud between them.
Again, I think it would be Ziggler retaining if this were to be the match come Sunday.
Ziggler/Swagger vs. Air Boom for Tag Team Championships
This match would undoubtedly be the result of a backstage promo with Vickie Guerrero and Teddy Long/John Lauranitus/Triple H. Vickie would see a Tag Team Title shot as the perfect opportunity to get her guys on the same page.
This match would most likely end in Air Boom retaining due to lack of proper build up to the match and the fact that Air Boom have been put across as credible champions.
Sheamus vs Christian
4 of 7This feud officially started at NOC just two weeks ago, but with the Raw Supershow also showcasing the Smackdown Superstars, they have had several chances to build their rivalry, including Christian spoiling two opportunities for Sheamus to win the Intercontinental Championship.
I personally think that this match has the ability to be a show stealer. If you look at Christian's matches with Randy Orton, it is plain to see that Christian can put on a great match regardless of his cowardly persona. These are two of the better workers in the WWE right now and this match will undoubtedly reflect that.
The end of this feud will surely see the winner go onto face the WHC, but I don't think Henry/Orton will quite be put to bed just yet, so I expect this feud to run longer as well. Sheamus will likely get the upper hand in this bout in order to trigger the phrase "one more match" from Christian.
My Prediction
Sheamus to pick up the victory
Mark Henry (C) vs Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Title
5 of 7Well I think we'll all agree that it was a shock when Mark Henry picked up the victory at NOC. The reason for this is become Randy Orton finally lost clean, and to be honest, none of us really thought this could (or would ever) happen.
I think this match should really start to show how unstoppable Mark Henry's title reign is actually going to be. If Orton reclaims the title this quickly then it completely kills Mark Henry's gimmick and he's back to square one.
If their match at NOC is anything to go by, then this will be a great match.
The cell is the X-Factor for Mark Henry because he can brutalise Orton and really live up to this monster heel persona which he has built for himself.
I'm going to go back on something I've said in a previous article by saying that I don't think it's time for Big Show and Kane to return just yet. If they returned at HIAC then we would have to bear a Kane/Show vs Mark Henry feud, which is just going to be embarrassing to watch, and this 'monster' storyline of Mark Henry could go on for a while yet.
This feud must surely be building to a No DQ Match somewhere along the line.
My Prediction
Mark Henry to retain
John Cena (C) vs Alberto Del Rio vs CM Punk for the WWE Title
6 of 7I understand the reasoning of throwing CM Punk into this match up, but I think it is foolish because Triple H vs. CM Punk in a cell would have been a much more interesting match to watch.
Even though this match is the main event, I feel that there are other matches in the night that will be a lot more exciting than this one, but hey, Cena's in it so the WWE HAVE to put it as the main event of the night.
Another gripe about this match is the appalling build up. Punk has been thrown from one feud into another that he has no real business in, and even then, Cena and ADR haven't had amazing promos during their feud.
In the scheme of things, ADR needs to pick up the victory. Del Rio fulfilled his destiny, and then lost the title very shortly after. I've mentioned in a previous article that Del Rio needs a new gimmick, and mentioned something along the lines of the 'cheating and stealing' that we expected of Eddie Guerrero.
A triple threat match offers the perfect opportunity to sit back and play possum, only to steal a win when the other two Superstars have sufficiently weakened each other.
Let me run another idea by you. We're 15 minutes or so into the match and suddenly Nash and Awesome Truth storm the arena. They knock out the referees on the outside who have the keys, get inside the cell and unleash hell on Cena and Punk. After sufficient beat down has ensued, Del Rio picks up the 1-2-3 on Cena. The final image of the night is Del Rio's arm being held aloft by Nash and Awesome Truth.
I think it's fair to say that this is definitely the most unpredictable of the night, where really any of the three could win.
My Prediction
Alberto Del Rio to win the title
