NFL Picks Week 4: Which Teams Will Simply Dominate Opposition?

Ryan PhillipsSep 29, 2011

In my power rankings for Week 4 of the NFL season, two teams have separated themselves from the pack and are clearly the top teams in the league.

The Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints faced off in an epic Thursday night showdown in Week 1. The Packers won that game 42-34, but there was very little difference between the teams.

In Week 4, both the Packers and the Saints will roll to wins.

Green Bay will welcome the 1-2 Denver Broncos to town, and the Packers have to be preparing to unleash a beatdown. Statistically, Green Bay currently possess the NFL's eighth-best offense at 403.3 yards per game, but you'd have a tough time arguing that they don't have the best group in reality.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the league's highest-rated passer, with a 120.9 quarterback rating. Offensively, Green Bay boasts incredible balance. The Packers are currently ninth in passing yards per game (294.3) and 10th in rushing yards per game (109). While they have allowed a ton of passing yards (359.3 yards per game), they have the NFL's top run defense (55 yards per game).

The Broncos will simply have no answer for Green Bay's mighty offense. While they are a middle-of-the-pack team from a defensive standpoint, they will not be able to keep up with way the Packers score points. Denver's offense is ranked 27th in the league at 286.3 total yards per game, which is only producing 19.3 points per game.

The Packers will not only shut the Broncos down, but they will hang a ton of points on a Denver defense that is just barely maintaining respectability.

Meanwhile, the Saints travel to Jacksonville this weekend to face a team breaking in a rookie starting quarterback. For a New Orleans team that has struggled defensively, this is a perfect matchup.

We all know the Saints can score, and with receiver Marques Colston expected to return on Sunday, the offense will only improve. The Saints currently have the NFL's second-best offense (437.7 yards per game) and are putting up an average of 34.7 points per game.

While the Jaguars have been stout from a defensive standpoint this season, they also have the league's worst passing attack (126.7 yards per game). You have to believe the Saints will be able to put up yards against any defense they face, so Jacksonville would need to be able to gain yards to keep things close. However, the Jags can't do that through the air. With Blaine Gabbert still trying to figure things out under-center, it could be a while before the passing offense looks even remotely effective.

Jacksonville gave up 32 points to the New York Jets in Week 2. If the Jets' offense was able to do that to the Jaguars, the Saints should obliterate them in Week 4.

Expect both the Packers and Saints to continue to look like the NFL's top two teams in easy wins on Sunday.
