TNA Impact Wrestling: Hogan's Bombshell and 6 Other Reasons to Tune in Tonight

Kyle SchadlerSep 29, 2011

The past couple of weeks of TNA Impact Wrestling have been great television, and there’s no sign of it stopping.

Everything has been leading up to TNA's biggest pay-per-view of the year, Bound for Glory. With the show only a couple of weeks away, TNA is certainly heating up.

The company has confirmed three matches for tonight, as well as four segments. One of those segments includes a big announcement from the “Immortal” Hulk Hogan.

So here’s what’s on tap for tonight.

7. Crimson Returns

1 of 8

The Bound for Glory Series looked like it had a sure winner. With 50 points, Crimson was the favorite to win the whole thing and challenge for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Bound for Glory.

There was someone else, though, that wasn’t so lucky. Samoa Joe had -10 points and wasn’t too happy about it. He went on a rampage and took out both D’Angelo Dinero and Devon before setting his sights on Crimson.

A few weeks before the finals were to take place, Joe injured Crimson’s knee enough to force him out of the series. Joe robbed Crimson of his opportunity at glory, and now the undefeated wrestler wants revenge.

How will Crimson strike? Is Joe ready? We’ll have to wait and see.

6. Tara vs. Madison Rayne: Queen’s Qualifying Match

2 of 8

A few ago, the Vice President of the Knockout’s Division, Karen Jarrett, made her first big decision.

At No Surrender, Winter managed to defeat Mickie James to become a two-time TNA Knockout’s Champion. She needed an opponent for Bound for Glory, but Karen felt that one challenger wasn’t enough.

She created the Queen’s Qualifying Matches featuring six Knockout’s in three one-on-one matches. The night it was created, Velvet Sky defeated Angelina Love to qualify for her first, and much-deserved, title shot.

Last week, Mickie James earned her rematch by defeating Brooke Tessmacher.

The final Queen’s Qualifying Match will be tonight when an old rivalry is reignited as the veteran Tara takes on the Queen Bee of the Knockout’s Division Madison Rayne.

Madison finally has a shot to get revenge since she lost the feud between the two months ago.

Can Tara’s veteran instincts gain her the victory, or will Madison get an opportunity to become the top dog once again?

5. X-Division Ladder Match

3 of 8

Jesse Sorensen vs. Kid Kash vs. Alex Shelley vs. Zema Ion vs. Brian Kendrick: No.1 Contender’s Match

The X-Division is basically back to its old self. The fast-paced, high flying action that we enjoyed back in the divisions prime is something to be excited about once again.

At No Surrender, Austin Ares defeated Brian Kendrick in a great match to win the X-Division Championship, and last week he retained the title against Jesse Sorensen in another good match. Now he needs a challenger for TNA’s biggest show of the year.

Tonight, the fast-paced, high flying action of the division will be well represented by a five-man ladder match with the winner challenging Aries at Bound for Glory. This should be quite the intense and exciting match.

Which X-Division star will get to the contract hanging above the ring first?

4. Jeff Hardy Continues to Apologize

4 of 8

When Jeff Hardy returned, he asked for one more chance. The fans are certainly giving it to him, but are his fellow wrestlers?

Two weeks ago he got to A.J. Styles and Devon. Styles didn’t want to hear anything he had to say and all but told him to go to hell.

Devon on the other hand was more understanding. He accepted Hardy’s apology, but told him he’d kick his ass if he got out of line.

Last week, he first approached Al Snow. Snow joined Devon in his acceptance.

The Charismatic Enigma then went to Matt Morgan. Morgan was a mix of both feelings as he went off on Hardy about what happened, but also was willing to give him another chance.

He last went up to the TNA World Champion, Kurt Angle. Angle shared Styles’ feelings, but went a step further. He told Hardy to just pack up and leave TNA for good. Hardy, though, felt that Angle saw him as a threat.

Will Jeff Hardy continue his apologetic ways? If so, who’s next on his list? Or will Hardy join in the fight against Immortal as a way to prove he’s on TNA’s side? We’ll find out tonight.

3. Sting Has a Message for Fortune

5 of 8

Ever since Fortune was revealed as the second “They,” they have fought side-by-side with Sting in his fight against Hulk Hogan and Immortal.

They even helped him win the title a few months back when they took out members of Immortal one by one.

Tonight, the Icon has a message for the faction.

The group seems as strong as ever, with the exception of Christopher Daniels, as they are behind Bobby Roode 100 percent in his quest for the TNA World Title.

There doesn’t seem to be much jealously within the group as Roode must face each member of Fortune thanks to Kurt Angle.

So what does Sting have to say? Will he continue to ask for help in his quest to take down Immortal, or ask them to back down because he wants to take on Hulk Hogan alone?

Perhaps it’s about Roode’s new main event position. Time will tell I suppose.

2. Bobby Roode vs. A.J. Styles

6 of 8

Two weeks ago, Kurt Angle revealed that Bobby Roode must face all the members of Fortune leading up to Bound for Glory. He faced, and defeated, Kazarian that night in a great match.

Last week, Christopher Daniels backed out of the match in favor of continuing his bragging over defeating Styles a few weeks ago.

Tonight Roode must face Styles. I am extremely excited for this match. Roode has proved that he’s a great singles wrestler, and Styles never disappoints. This will certainly be match of the night.

Who will come out on top, though? Angle set up these matches for the purpose of seeing Fortune’s jealously of Roode rear its ugly head and take him out before Bound for Glory.

Will Angle’s plan come to fruitarian tonight when Styles’ possible jealously shows itself, or will Styles continue to support Roode? Will Daniels play some kind of role in this? No matter the result, this should be a great match.

1. Hulk Hogan’s Huge Announcement

7 of 8

Last week in a backstage segment, Hulk Hogan said was going to drop a bombshell next week. Well, next week as arrived.

For months, Hogan has been avoiding Sting in every way possible. Since the Stinger defeated Ric Flair two weeks ago, Hogan has to meet Sting in the ring at Bound for Glory as per the stipulation.

At the beginning of last weeks show, though, Hogan told Sting that he’d never wrestle him again. That brings us to tonight and Hogan’s huge, bombshell announcement.

There have been rumors of Hogan finally announcing his retirement and there have been reports that his TNA contract runs out around Bound for Glory.

Is Hulk Hogan finally retiring from the ring? Is he leaving TNA? Will he man up and face Sting at the biggest TNA show of the year? All these questions and more should be answered tonight.

Expect More

8 of 8

While TNA has confirmed plenty of action for tonight, there are some more questions going into the show.

Last week, Ink Inc. made their return and attacked Mexican American in a tattoo parlor. They really took it to the champions as they were left down and out.

We also the potential debut of a new Knockout as the woman that got involved at the parlor looked like Christina Von Eerie to me.

Will this lead to Mexican America vs. Ink Inc. for the TNA Tag Team Titles at Bound for Glory? If that really was Von Eerie, will she be making an official debut tonight?

For the past month or two, Jerry Lynn has been screwing with Rob Van Dam. It escalated when he cost Van Dam a chance at the finals of the Bound for Glory Series.

Lynn revealed that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff convinced him that he was better then Van Dam.

Now we’ll see them go one-on-one at Bound for Glory in Full Metal Mayhem.

Last week, though, Van Dam was taken out backstage. We don’t know who it was, but we can assume that it was Lynn and his partner for the night, Bully Ray. How will Rob Van Dam respond to the attack this week?

Speaking of Bully Ray, he’s scheduled to take on Mr. Anderson at Bound for Glory. These two have been at each other’s throats since Anderson joined Immortal in July.

The two has a very physical match at Hardcore Justice the next month.

On the next episode of Impact Wrestling, Anderson was kicked out of Immortal and put on the injured list. Everyone’s favorite asshole would return with a vengeance, though, and he wants Ray’s head.

Last week, with Van Dam taken out, Anderson lost a handicap match against Ray and Lynn. Will Mr. Anderson be the next to strike or can Bully Ray keep his momentum?

Finally we have the tension between A.J. Styles and Christopher Daniels. At Destination X, the two had a five-star match which Styles won. A few weeks ago, Daniels won the rematch after Styles slipped off the top rope.

Despite being a cheap victory, Daniels took it and now he can’t stop bragging about it. Styles was fed up with Daniels’ ego and the two went at it last week.

They brawled for a few minutes until Kazarian broke them up and Daniels kicked Styles in the family jewels. How will this tension factor into Styles’ match tonight? It could very well lead to the rubber match at Bound for Glory.
