NFL Picks Week 4: Buffalo Bills and 3 Surprise Teams That Will Continue to Roll

Mike ChiariJun 7, 2018

Three weeks into the NFL season, there have certainly been a number of feel-good stories already. While it's possible that some of the league's more surprising teams are nothing more than flashes in the pan, many of those teams seem to have the tools to excel long term.

How these upstart teams fare in Week 4 should be a good indicator moving forward. Here are three surprise teams that will continue their hot starts with wins this week.

One of just three remaining undefeated teams, the Detroit Lions went a long way in proving they're for real last week by overcoming a 20-0 halftime deficit to beat the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions will have a great litmus test this weekend when they travel to the Lone Star State to take on the 2-1 Dallas Cowboys.

While the Cowboys have shown plenty of spunk over the past two weeks, injuries to Tony Romo, Felix Jones, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are bound to catch up with them against a team like Detroit. The Lions have a very good pass-rush that could definitely make life miserable for Romo. Their offense also has the firepower to put up a crooked number thanks to quarterback Matthew Stafford and receiver Calvin Johnson.

At 2-1 not many observers believe the Tennessee Titans are for real, but with the Cleveland Browns on tap for Week 4, they have a legitimate chance to end the season's first month with a winning record. The Titans suffered a tough loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, but bounced back with an impressive win over the Baltimore Ravens the following week and a triumph over the Denver Broncos last week.

The loss of wide receiver Kenny Britt for the season will hurt the offense, but it may also allow Tennessee to get back to what it does best. Running back Chris Johnson has done absolutely nothing to this point, so it would behoove the Titans to get him going. A matchup with a mediocre Cleveland team should remedy Johnson's slow start nicely.

After wins over the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders in the season's first two weeks, the Buffalo Bills were shaping up to be a nice little story. Maybe they could hang with the mighty New England Patriots in Week 3, but they couldn't beat them, right? Wrong. The Bills matched the Pats blow for blow and intercepted Tom Brady four times en route to a 34-31 win.

This week, the Bills face a vanilla Cincinnati Bengals team that shouldn't pose much of a problem, but they can't afford to take the Bengals lightly. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has led Buffalo's NFL-best offense with precision, and seems to be the perfect fit for head coach Chan Gailey's spread offense. Provided Buffalo's defense can tighten up, the Bills should be in for a great season.
