Fantasy Football Week 4 Rankings: Mark Sanchez and the 3 Worst QB Plays

Andrea HangstSep 29, 2011

This week, three fantasy quarterbacks look to be some of the worst plays for your team. Should you be considering starting these players, perhaps look to your bench or the waiver wire for a better option.

Mark Sanchez, New York Jets (at Baltimore Ravens)

The Baltimore Ravens terrorized St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford in Week 3, and they will look to do the same thing against the Jets on Sunday night.

The Ravens have a crazy-good pass rush and the Jets' running game has stalled; this is an equation for disaster for Mark Sanchez and his stats.

Sure, he's been a workable fantasy quarterback option through the first three weeks of the season, but I recommend not starting him this week if you can do so. He's going to be under significant pressure throughout the game, and it will be a struggle for him to shake it.

Matt Schaub, Houston Texans (vs. Pittsburgh Steelers)

Lucky for the Texans that they have one of the best running attacks in the league, because they still are struggling to develop a consistent passing game this season.

Schaub's numbers have been improving weekly, however, culminating in his Week 3 373-yard, three-touchdown performance in the Texans' loss to the New Orleans Saints. But don't assume that these numbers will continue to climb when Houston hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.

The Steelers have struggled against the run, which is surely going to be the focus of the Texans' offense this week, and they have a top-10 defense against the pass.

Schaub will likely find himself faced with an extreme amount of pressure by the Pittsburgh linebackers and will struggle to get the ball to favorite target Andre Johnson for many yards or points. He won't have a good day on the field and he won't serve to benefit your fantasy team in turn.

Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers (at Chicago Bears)

Cam Newton's stellar Weeks 1 and 2 have been tempered by a Week 3 outing against the Jacksonville Jaguars that saw the team reach its first win of the season and Newton's numbers way down.

While much of this has to do with the heavy downpour that soaked the first half of the game, and his fantasy owners shouldn't panic in response, Newton's chances to have a big game against the Bears is pretty slim.

Newton's true value is yet to be revealed; a wild swing in his statistics means he's yet to find his middle ground. He won't be held to the 158 yards he achieved in Week 3, but I do not see him having yet another 400-plus yard, multiple-touchdown day.

The Bears are in a hole from which they desperately need to dig themselves out; at home against the Panthers, they will seek to bring the pain to Newton in order to do so. If you must start Newton this week, do so with extreme caution and with the knowledge that it's a big risk.
