Tony Romo: Brian Orakpo Finally Calls out Media for Overhyping Cowboys' QB

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

It seems that every time a quarterback plays with a bruise, the media overhypes him as an ironman and warrior who is sacrificing life and limb to play the game.

Tony Romo was the latest to be canonized on the field for his ability to play against the Washington Redskins, despite a broken rib and punctured lung suffered in Dallas’ overtime victory at San Francisco.

Brian Orakpo, the third-year Redskins Pro Bowl linebacker, got fed up with all the acclaim and praise that Romo was receiving prior to and after the Cowboys’ victory over Washington on Monday night.

'To me they blown it way out of proportion,' the linebacker said on ESPN 980’s John Thompson Show on Tuesday. 'I mean, they tried to make it seem like the guy was hospitalized the night before the game, just so we could build it up if they was to win the game — oh he’s a courageous player to go out there and play. The guy was playing just like Tony Romo, running around, making throws. He got hit throughout the whole game and still getting up. I mean, it was blown way out of proportion, but it is what it is.'

I have to agree with Orakpo. It seems like any time a QB plays with an injury, it gets too much publicity.

Remember Brett Favre?

It made me want to be sick every time the announcers talked about his ability to overcome pain and go out there and be a hero for his team.

Shut up already.

These guys get paid millions and millions of dollars to do what they do. It’s the highest-paid position on the field by far.

If you want to be counted on to be a franchise quarterback, it should go without saying that you are going to have to play if you are even remotely able to.

Let’s listen to Orakpo and stop making a big deal about it.
