NFL Picks Week 4: NFC West Will Be Lucky to Win a Single Game

Michael DixonSep 29, 2011

Do you know what the only division is that doesn't have more than one team with a winning record?

Well, the NFC West was probably your default guess. Given that the NFC West didn't have a single team that had as much as a .500 record in 2010, they're a pretty solid bet.

And they would be the right bet. The San Francisco 49ers sit at 2-1, the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks sit at 1-2 and the St. Louis Rams are at 0-3.

All four are in unfavorable matchups this week.

Given what we've seen from all four teams this year and their opponents, an 0-4 record is quite possible. Remember that two of the four wins that the NFC West came in divisional games. The 49ers beat the Seahawks in Week 1, while the Seahawks beat the Cardinals in Week 3.

San Francisco 49ers

The Eagles are going to desperate in this one. The 49ers haven't won in Philadelphia since 2003, which was the last time that they beat the Eagles period.

This is just not a matchup that favors San Francisco. Whether Michael Vick plays or not, the 49ers will have a hard time containing the Eagles' receivers.

Fortunately, they will not leave the week in anything worse than a tie for the division. In reality, they will probably be ahead.

Seattle Seahawks

Like the 49ers, the Seahawks face a team that's in a surprising must win situation. Like the 49ers, the must win team is the clear favorite.

With both the Buccaneers and Saints at 2-1, the Falcons will have a really hard time starting 1-3 and climbing back into the division.

The Falcons are just a much better team here. Matt Ryan is one of the game's best young quarterbacks, and Seattle's offense is still inept. Even in front of the tough Seattle crowd, Atlanta shouldn't have a huge problem here.

Arizona Cardinals

The Giants aren't a bad team. They are really hit by the injury bug, but Arizona's offense has yet to really impress this year.

New York's offense will move the ball against Arizona's defense. Eli Manning really is a good quarterback.

Even in Arizona, this is a game that really favors the Giants. This might be the NFC West's most winnable game, but I still like the Giants to prevail here.

St. Louis Rams

Despite Dallas' injuries, St. Louis' offense is no better than the Cowboys. With the exception of one play, the Redskins' offense did a very good job of containing the Cowboys' attack.

Now, they are lined up against a group that doesn't have players like Dez Bryant. Brian Orakpo is going to make the life of Sam Bradford very difficult on Sunday.

Offensively, the Redskins won't be great, but they will do enough to win this one.

Predictions:

Eagles 28, 49ers 17

Falcons 30, Seahawks 10

Giants 27, Cardinals 17

Redskins 20, Rams 13
